I have never met the man. But have corresponded with him on Facebook for a few years. I'm pushing 92, he is a few years younger and not in good health. He is a German American, residing in Bangkok. His family fled the Nazis in the 1930s. I am now getting no response to my messages. Is there a way to find out if he is still with us? Would the American Embassy help? Any suggestions?

In this day and age, where people are afraid of breaking privacy rules, I doubt the US Embassy would give out any personal information. Can't do any harm to ask, or see if they can offer a suggestion on how to find him.

If you have his address maybe send a letter asking how he is, with your contact details. If he is deceased, someone else might at least reply and let you know.

If you know his location and full name, you could check obituaries in that area.

Thank you to all those that have made suggestions. The only think I have on him is his Facebook name. Facebook comes up with ' 'His name. Then he has not logged on.' Ah well. Maybe he has had immigration problems and had to exit the country. But he would still be able to use Facebook. Ah well. Wait and see.
