He used Discord, when Telegram has servers in Dubai and has a Russian owner, so would have been much safer. He told his lover to delete his Discord messages, unware that the FBI could reconstitute his messages.

 

The disguise he used was a cunning pair of sun glasses and a baseball cap, so not just his mother and father, but his friends immediately recognised him on photos.

 

He failed to realise that he would be filmed on the roof.  He helpfully engraved the bullets with homosexual and ANTIFA references.

Yes, I think being with Twiggs radicalized him on the LGBT/Trans front. If you look at his upbringing and life, the outstanding thing is his relationship with this Twiggs character.

How far was the rifle from the shooting?

His shot was made about 145 yars from Kirk's speaker podium. 

 

When he dropped the rifle he literally just clambered down from the roof, crossed a road and dropped it right in the first bushy area he saw. 

 

It's incredibly close to the building where he shot from.

 

It's almost incredible how stupid that is. Imagine you stab someone and then throw the knife 20 metres in the vicinity. Even the dumbest of criminals would have disposed of the murder weapon far away.

If the text messages are real, he said he expected to take the secret to his grave that he killed Kirk.

Yes, and that's excusable, as he was only 22 years old. But the really odd thing is that he was supposedly so intelligent on paper, yet he didn't think of using a messaging service like Telegram which has servers in Dubai. Which is odd as he's supposedly tech savvy. Instead all his texts were found.
