ABC was threatened by the FCC which is run by Trump officials.  They can pull their licenses.  Jimmy Kimmel is a comedian not even a journalist.  He wrote a nice tweet days before, about Kirk.  His comment was not even offensive in my opinion.  You might agree that a TV comedian with his own show has a lot leeway traditionally.  We are not North Korea.

ABC/Disney is a for profit business. The FCC can threaten but the actions of Jimmy Kimmel would not warrant a lawful suspension of it's broadcast license. Disney is run by smart people and they know this. Disney does not want to offend anyone who is a customer or potential customer of it's content or products.   For now he is suspended and I forsee him coming back. Kirk's funeral is this weekend and  if Kimmel is smart he would kept a low profile on Kirk.  Right now the mood and sentiment of the country is in support of Kirk and his family. This means if one is a high profile position  it might be better to pass on comments for now. Of course what do I know.

And don't own properties that are subject to FCC licensing.

And don't be under a regime that forces the FCC to censor anything that's not favorable to the Republican position.

Jon stewart managed to keep politics funny and uncontroversial. Kimmel used to be conservative but sold his soul to make it big time. Hes not someone to feel sorry for

Did the Fox News presenter who suggested euthanising the homeless get pulled too?

its not the same,

This has already started: #ABCBoycott anc cancel Huly, Disney+ and ESPN.  I wonder if it is trending? I canceled Disney+ last year.  Disney+ streaming content was not appealing or enjoyable. I just wish Paratmount+ streaming was avaialble in the Land of Smiles.  Paramount+ would not even work with a VPN.

Well, in terms of censorship we weren't North Korea, until about 8 months ago.

What criteria does the FCC use to suspend a broadcast license?

This is the biggest threat to civil liberty since Joseph McCarthy.

“[He is] our modern Grand Inquisitor … a dangerous, clever and ruthless demagogue.” - Agnes Meyer

“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We must remember always that accusation is not proof and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law. We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men – not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were, for the moment, unpopular”
― Edward R. Murrow

How predictable that the left are suddenly anti-censorship now that they perceive themselves to be the ones being censored. 😆

He is not funny for you. Others find his observations and humor funny. He is a sensitive man who comes from a modest financial background. He changed to a more socially conscious person after experiencing his son's serious medical surgery and treatment. During that time he was exposed to other young families who did not have the financial means to access the expensive treatments he did. That's when he started donating his time and money to supporting children's health and taking a stand on healthcare accessibility.    His actions are neither leftist, nor activist. 50 years ago, they would have been termed responsible or Christian charity or moral leadership.

Well deserved, Kimmel saying Robinson was MAGA conservative is hard to top in its falsehood.

I'll miss Guillermo, he was hilarious.

Has the FCC ever revoked a license?

In 1969, the United States courts of appeals, in an opinion written by Warren Burger, directed the FCC to revoke Lamar Broadcasting's license for television station WLBT due to the station's segregationist politics and ongoing censorship of NBC network news coverage of the U.S. civil rights movement

Freedom of speech does not equate to freedom of consequence. Especially in the corporate marketplace.

“The right of dissent, or, if you prefer, the right to be wrong, is surely fundamental to the existence of a democratic society. That’s the right that went first in every nation that stumbled down the trail toward totalitarianism.”

Segregation and censorhip of US Civil Rights are serious. A comedian on a late night talk show would not warrant a suspension for ABC.  The FCC has due process in terms of license suspensions and revocations.  Kimmel did a sketch painted in black face. Was ABC suspended back then?

He should be ridiculed, not cancelled. But ABC are lefties, so they did what lefties do.

First sentence correct. Second ridiculous. It wasn't ABC, they should file a lawsuit next to get the show reinstated. It was Trump appointed FCC Chair's solitary biased decision, not even a collective decision.

Well just like all of Trump’s libel lawsuits that he most definitely would not win, many businesses have decided to just pay him to go away …or to approve their mergers.

I never mentioned Trump. This is about ABC/Disney and one of it's employees.

In a blink of an eye, US has gone from authoritarianism to communism in information censorship.

Was hoping I would see on page 1 some right wingers come out and say - as much as they don't like Jimmy - the action by the FCC is outrageous and a step too far. But no. Sad. Maybe page 2.

Great news.

Long overdue.

Ya if only Antifa is an organization. Trump was dumb and you not that far.

I had never heard of Mr Kirk, and I still know nothing about him except I think he is far right?  Anyway, if one doesn't like a show, then just do not watch it

Perhaps playing by the rules while the left played dirty got old?

Perhaps the left assassinating Charlie Kirk changed things?

Perhaps the gloves are finally coming off?

All speculatiion of course. Personally I'd be happy to see Kimmel continue to embarrass himself.
