In the United States, broadcast airways belong to the public, in the same way a National Park does. 

 

NBC and or its affiliates leases the rights to broadcast on those airways in the same way Xanterra Parks & Resorts leases the right to operate the Old Faithful Inn Dining Room. 

 

Part of their lease agreements is that they be operated for the public good, not just for the good of half the public. 

 

NBC has not more right to mock and ridicule half the county than Xanterra Parks & Resorts would have the right to mock and ridicule blacks, Jews, or anyone that comes in with a MAGA had on. 

 

Jimmy Kimmel has not lost his free speech rights, he is free to continue saying whatever he likes. 

 

When I look at the reporting on this, or any Trump issue, is clear to me that no one in the media is afraid to speak out against Trump.

Yes, it was a straight business decision. ABC has pending deals before the FCC, so after trump's promise to cancel Kimmel, ABC had no choice to cancel Kimmel if they want the deals to get approved.

That's a 77% drop.  The question I would ask is why they didn't replace him years ago.  But then I see how dishonest and one sided they were in their political coverage and the answer becomes clear.

 

A wingnut like me may even conclude that ABC killed 2 birds with one stone.  Get rid of a money loser they've been needing to dump for years AND put the blame on Trump.
