The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has signed an agreement with the Royal Thai Navy to advance renewable energy projects in Sattahip. The initiative involves installing floating solar and ground-mounted solar farms across six naval sites, with a combined capacity of no less than 9,230 kWp. The signing ceremony took place on 22 September 2025 at the Navy Headquarters in Bangkok, attended by PEA Governor Mongkol Treekitjananont and Admiral Jirapol Wongwit, Commander of the Royal Thai Navy.

The collaboration underscores PEA’s commitment to expanding renewable energy use within government agencies. The project will provide electricity generated on-site through solar systems integrated with a digital platform, allowing energy usage analysis and efficient power management. This approach is expected to reduce utility costs for the participating naval units while supporting national energy sustainability goals.

The solar projects will be deployed in six areas under the Navy in Chonburi province. Floating solar systems will be installed at the 1st Marine Infantry Regiment, the Air and Coastal Defence Command, and the Naval Recruit Training Centre. Ground-mounted solar farms will be developed at the Naval Rating School, the 1st Frigate Squadron, and the Naval Air Division. Each site will contribute to the overall installed capacity, supporting both operational needs and environmental targets.

Experts highlight that such partnerships between state utilities and the armed forces set a precedent for integrating renewable energy in critical infrastructure. By leveraging large land and water resources, the Navy provides an ideal testing ground for renewable projects that could later expand nationwide. The digital monitoring and management system also ensures that energy efficiency remains central to operations.

Looking ahead, the PEA and Navy are expected to continue refining the model for broader adoption. The Sattahip projects are likely to serve as benchmarks for future collaborations in other regions. Authorities indicated that the integration of floating and ground-mounted systems could further encourage public agencies to adopt renewable energy solutions on a wider scale.
