A two-and-a-half-year-old boy has died after being violently assaulted by his stepfather in Lopburi province, with medical examinations confirming severe internal injuries. The suspect, 30-year-old Mr. Sekthawut, admitted to striking the child in the abdomen, leading to fatal trauma.

The victim, identified as Master Ukraine, had been living with his mother, Ms. Prakaikaew, aged 26, who had been married to the suspect for around six months. The couple had been working in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya before returning to Lopburi on the evening of 20 September to collect the child from his grandmother. On the morning of 21 September, Mr. Sekthawut offered to take the boy to meet his grandfather and stop at a convenience store.

Later that morning, the stepfather returned and told the mother that the child needed urgent medical attention. Believing her son was suffering from an asthma attack, Ms. Prakaikaew accompanied him to hospital. Doctors, however, discovered that the boy had suffered serious physical assault and despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.

Mr. Sekthawut later confessed to punching the child in the stomach until he lost consciousness, before attempting to clean him up and taking him to hospital. He claimed he “did not intend” to cause death, but forensic examination revealed that the boy had died from a ruptured liver, torn lungs and severe internal injuries. Ms. Prakaikaew subsequently filed a formal complaint at Khok Samrong Police Station, expressing fears that the suspect might try to escape.

At 16:10 on the same day, police led by Pol. Lt. Col. Phayap Rung Hua Phai arrested Mr. Sekthawut at his residence in Wang Khon Khwang subdistrict. He has been charged with murder. Tensions rose when relatives of the victim, informed of the details, during the funeral bathing rite, rushed to the police station demanding to see the suspect. Officers secured the area to prevent further violence.

Authorities have confirmed that the case is under active legal proceedings and assured the family that justice will be pursued fully. The police have pledged to carry the case through to its conclusion in order to provide fairness to both the victim and his grieving relatives.
