Trump Says Ukraine Can Win Back All Territory from Russia

US President Donald Trump has declared that Ukraine has the potential to reclaim all of its territory from Russia, signaling a major shift in his stance on the ongoing war.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that Kyiv could restore “the original borders from where this war started” if it receives strong backing from Europe and NATO. He argued that mounting economic strain on Moscow has made Russia a “paper tiger” and that “this is the time for Ukraine to act.”

The remarks followed Trump’s private meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, shortly after Trump addressed the UN General Assembly. The statement marks a departure from Trump’s previous position, where he had suggested that Ukraine might need to concede some territory to secure peace.

Trump went even further, hinting that Ukraine could achieve “more than that,” though he did not elaborate. Notably, he made no mention of Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014—eight years before its full-scale invasion in 2022.

Zelensky welcomed the remarks, calling them a “big shift” in Washington’s tone. He said Ukraine interpreted Trump’s words as a sign that the US is prepared to offer security guarantees after the war ends, though details remain vague. Zelensky also suggested that future aid could include advanced weapons, drones, and air defense systems.

Later speaking to Fox News, Zelensky described Trump’s words as a “positive signal,” adding that Trump may have changed his view after realizing that Russian President Vladimir Putin had misled him in the past.

Trump’s new comments could reshape expectations of US policy toward Ukraine, with both Kyiv and Western allies closely watching for follow-through.

Key Takeaways

  • Trump shift: Trump now says Ukraine can win back all its original territory.

  • Economic pressure: He called Russia a “paper tiger” facing deep financial troubles.

  • Zelensky reaction: Ukraine sees the shift as a positive sign of long-term US support.

A knee jerk reaction to Putin playing him like a fool.

Like he gives a damn about Zelensky and Ukraine.

Let's see - I'm sure that it will be a TACO again.

That would be the normal procedure. Anything else would surprise me.
