Two tier pricing is official policy even for public hospitals.

And as stated: avoid as a self payer.

You pay so much for all the pomp and glamour.

Pattaya is extra expensive over other branches of the Bangkok Hospital chain from my experience.

Got a completely silly cost estimate of 300k for TURP under full anesthesia(!) and one(!) night in hospital. Completely unrealistic decoy.

In Khon Kaen I paid some 200k with spinal block (fully conscious) and 5 nights.

Also ultrasound and MRI before was considered mandatory.

I was told to avoid Bangkok Hospitals like the plague as their fees were well over the top (unless you had full medical insurance that the hospital could plunder). Being a type 2 diabetic I have never been able to get medical insurance and fund myself.

I also lived near Khon Kaen where I avoided the RAM Hospital as well.

For hospital treatment I used the private Ratchapruek Hospital which was ideal for me and less expensive.

  • I have heard that there are actually 3 rate  categories at that hospital: Thai rate, rate for resident expats, and tourist rate. But cashers may  automatically apply tourist rate when they see a faran

  • There was a court case a while back confirming that its quite ok to do this.

  • I have been a member of Queen Sirikit Navy hospital for a few years now. There are a couple signs posted on the walls. There are 3 levels of fees.1) migrant workers etc.120b.2) Foreigners resident 180b

When I went with my Mrs for her breast cancer screening at Bangkok Hospital we bumped into our next door neighbour (Thai) who was there for a full body check. All others waiting in the various queues were Thais. The number and variety of screening packages offered by the various private hospitals indicates the gap in Thai National Health Service. To be screened for free my Mrs would have needed to convince a GP at our local community hospital that she needed it. They found invasive ductal carcinoma stage 2-3. Unfortunately, although routine screening under NHS is due to be introduced, my Mrs wouldn't have qualified because she needed to be aged over 40 AND with immediate family history of breast cancer. As you say, her treatment was under her 30 baht scheme. To her credit, the cancer doctor at Bangkok Hospital actually advised this.

I just don't see that same dual pricing at BKH Pattaya, IME>

I'm wondering how many here that state BKH Pattaya has dual pricing have actually experienced this at this hospital, or maybe just repeating what they've heard or read.

Last year, promotion price for upper ED and lower colonoscopy was same for my wife and for me.

Paing with a CC for each.

Obviously foreigners have more money

Very wrong.

Maybe you have more money than your girl.

But you are generalizing.

In fact, official rates for public hospitals, and the regulations regarding them, indicate higher prices for foreigners.

Evidence?

Agree.  My Thai spouse and I were charged the same price when we had our annual health checkups.

Promotions and packages are usually the same price for everybody.

Regular prices do have the said 3-tier system.

Yes, I do have experience.

BTW when the cashier sees  a package is cheaper then regular itemized prices,  they will bill the package.

Charges foreigners 25% over the all published fees
