UK Army to Build Migrant Camps in Major Immigration Crackdown

The UK government has ordered the Army to help create large-scale migrant camps as part of a sweeping immigration crackdown. Military logistics teams have been tasked with rapidly converting government-owned land into accommodation sites to house asylum seekers currently placed in hotels.

The move is designed to cut the estimated £8 million a day cost of using hotels while also sending a stronger deterrent message to migrants crossing the Channel. Under the new plan, military expertise will be used to erect temporary facilities at speed, reducing reliance on the private sector and freeing up hotel rooms for public use.

Officials say the new camps will provide basic shelter, food, and medical support but will not replicate hotel-style comforts. The strategy aligns with the government’s pledge to curb illegal migration, particularly via small boat arrivals. Prime Ministerial aides have described the initiative as a “decisive shift” in both policy and public spending.

Critics, however, have raised concerns about living standards and the long-term impact of housing vulnerable people—including families and children—in large-scale camps. Human rights groups argue the approach risks creating “prison-like” environments and stigmatizing asylum seekers.

The Ministry of Defence is expected to work alongside the Home Office to identify and prepare suitable sites in the coming weeks. Ministers have not yet confirmed how many camps will be built or their exact locations, but insiders suggest priority will be given to areas with high numbers of hotel placements.

The Army’s involvement marks one of the most visible steps in the government’s wider immigration crackdown, which has become a central political issue ahead of the next general election.

Key Takeaways

  • Army to build migrant camps on government land to house asylum seekers.

  • Plan aims to cut hotel costs, currently £8m per day.

  • Critics warn of poor conditions, raising human rights concerns.

Will the idiots who attacked me like a pack of Soi dogs now come back and apologise 😀😀

How long have I been saying. Get the Military to build camps, keep the guests nice and secure, and keep them there until they beg to go home.

How does it take you weeks to identify any number of Military training areas ?

More realistic than 5 star hotels.

Do the critics raise concerns about living standards and the long-term impact of housing vulnerable people - like British citizens living rough on the street- including families and children?

Didn't think so.

Too little too late, this is just desperate PR from Starmer who said he was going to smash the gangs, he did nothing and hundreds a day keep arriving. We need to stop the boats, not change where the beds are. There are about enough beds in that pic for one day of boat invaders.

Put the immigrants in army barracks and the soldiers in the 5 star hotels.

It would be cheaper

More illegals than Soldiers

Well, about time... but it's only being done to placate the fury of the public. This is how it should be, arrivals should housed in spartan places like this with just the bare essentials whilst their application is processed and be kept far away from normal communities and cities... then if the application fails, then they are promptly sent back to whence they came, either home country or France. Any country, including France, should be sanctioned and have visa restrictions on their citizens if they fail to comply... to hell with them.

So the UK is turning into a fascist state full of jack-booted storm troopers.
