The US Supreme Court has dismissed Ghislaine Maxwell’s appeal against her sex-trafficking conviction, leaving her 20-year sentence intact unless a presidential pardon is granted. Without detailing reasons, the court’s decision is a major setback for Maxwell. Her lawyer, David Oscar Markus, expressed disappointment but vowed to pursue further legal options.

 

Maxwell, a former British socialite, was convicted for assisting Jeffrey Epstein in exploiting underage girls. Epstein, a New York financier, died in prison in 2019. The conviction was based on her recruitment and grooming of young girls for Epstein between 1994 and 2004. The Justice Department has yet to comment on the court's decision.

 

Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s family expressed gratitude for the ruling. They are adamant that Maxwell serve her full sentence. Meanwhile, Maxwell's legal team contested the original verdict, maintaining she should not have been tried or found guilty of these charges. The White House addressed speculation about a potential pardon from Trump and confirmed that no discussions of clemency have taken place.

 

Recently, Maxwell was interviewed by federal agents as part of an inquiry into the sex-trafficking network, probing the involvement of others. Following this, she was moved to a minimum-security facility in Texas. In her July interviews, Maxwell claimed no inappropriate behaviour from Trump during interactions with Epstein.

 

Family members of Giuffre have voiced concerns about Maxwell’s current imprisonment conditions. They believe she deserves to be in a higher-security facility rather than the minimum-security FPC Bryant in Texas, which is approximately 160km from Austin.

Released in the wee hours and dashed to a private jet and whisked off to a place with no extradition agreement.

IMO Biden's biggest failure as POTUS was he didn't get rid the guy who went on to get elected again.  If there is any other person than their idol that the MAGA crowd should hold in reverence it is Merrick Garland.
