Tourists are heading to Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest peak, as an unexpected cold snap hit the area. On Thursday, October 10, 2025, temperatures plummeted to 11°C, accompanied by heavy fog, creating picturesque and chilly conditions. This sudden weather change has delighted visitors seeking a romantic getaway ahead of a long weekend.

Chiang Mai is experiencing colder temperatures earlier than usual this year. The sharp drop in temperature on Doi Inthanon's summit has created what authorities are calling a 'heaven for fog lovers.' Tourists have traveled to enjoy the unique weather conditions, with the cold extending throughout the national park.

The lowest temperatures recorded were 11°C at Doi Inthanon Peak, 14°C at Kew Mae Pan, and 18°C at the National Park Office. While the air quality is excellent and traffic remains manageable, the thick fog has prompted officials to advise drivers to be cautious on mountain roads.

The Northern Meteorological Centre forecasts a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms, yet the drop in temperatures signals an early start to winter. Chiang Mai city itself sees warmer temperatures, with expected lows of 24°C and highs of 35°C. This early cold spell suggests a potentially busy tourism season for the province.

As the weather draws visitors, the local tourism industry anticipates a boost from those eager to experience the unusual conditions. The chilly weather is likely to continue, enhancing the area's appeal as a scenic retreat.

Key Takeaways

  • Doi Inthanon's temperature dropped to 11°C, causing a surge in tourist interest.
  • Authorities urge caution on foggy mountain roads despite good air quality.
  • Early cold suggests a busy tourism season as winter approaches.
