October 15, 2025Oct 15 Picture courtesy of ThaiRath The Industry Minister, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, has announced the formation of a new taskforce to tackle illegal factories importing substandard products and disposing of industrial waste improperly. The initiative, launched on 15 October 2025 at the parliament, aims to protect public health and the environment. The taskforce, officially named “Ten-Niao,” will be led by Thapakorn Kulcharoen, Secretary to the Minister of Industry, with Ploylapas Singthothong, Advisor to the Minister, serving as a key committee member. Deputy Commissioner Pakin Siwamethakul of Samut Sakhon Provincial Police will act as vice-chair. Representatives from related agencies will also join the committee. The move follows the Ministry of Industry’s ongoing mandate to regulate industrial operations under the “Break, Push, Pull, Support” policy, which focuses on resolving urgent issues, eliminating accumulated problems, attracting investment and promoting future industries. Additional guidance from the Deputy Minister includes a “Close Fast, Open Fast, Reliable” approach to ensure swift and effective law enforcement. During a meeting of the economic cabinet, Thanakorn highlighted concerns over smuggled counterfeit goods flooding the market. The ministry plans to establish a platform to verify whether products are manufactured in Thailand or imported illegally, with implications for taxation. SMEs, heavily affected by such challenges, will receive support through SME Bank and the Pracharath Fund to enhance liquidity. The taskforce will implement operational plans in line with the Ten-Niao strategy, demonstrating full commitment and efficiency in enforcing regulations. The initiative also prioritises environmental issues such as PM 2.5 pollution control, particularly during the sugarcane burning season, ahead of the four-month high tourist season.
