Need High-Resolution Heavy Wired Mouse (right for my hand)

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

I have not felt a great mouse in my hand since the olden times, when IBM and Wang-An Computer were known-names for workstations. These were particularly good for engineers doing CAD/CAM work.

Those were days when manipulating a mouse was precise ecstasy, and when your pointer would easily go where you intended, no matter how small the hole.

These days, wired mice are too light and flimsy.

The cords are not flexible, and so the mice, these days, seem to have a mind of their own.

For example, I dug up a Genius wired mouse from my junk box, purchased years ago, but even though it has a DPI of about 1200, still, the stiff cord and the lack of weight…make it pretty much useless garbage. Sometimes, being stiff is NOT a good thing.

I would use a wireless mouse, if it were not for the fact that I often use THREE MICE simultaneously, and the radio frequencies (RF) from these three mice often interfere with each other.

I use mice on desktop computers, only.

So, there is no need to have wireless mices, 95 percent of the time.

I am not a gamer.

I need a great mouse for text editing, with precision.

Probably it matters not what OS I am using, even though I only use Linux.

I wonder if some Apple Mouse might work?

Apple has made some great mice for Graphics Design, for example.

But, I need a USB-3 mouse, and not a USB-C mouse.

Logitech is usually good.

However, has Logitech stopped producing higher-quality wired mice?

Why?

Anyway, after over a decade, I am hoping to go back to wired mice, if I can find a great one.

Who is not tired of buying batteries?.

What might anyone suggest?

Tks.

Gamma

Note:  Heavier Mice are better.  Have you noticed this fact?  But, nobody makes substantial mice with substance, these days, apparently.

I like them small and heavy.

From my experience of 10 years, I think the Logitech M325 is a great mouse. And, I have about FIVE of them. Unfortunately, this model is wireless.  If only they made a wired mouse of exactly the same design….

image.png.7c7434ef89c707d26134954d71536c8a.png

Best wireless mouse I have ever found and used....for over 10 years.

I bought FIVE of them, or more.

They are durable, and there is NOTHING to complain about.

Except, I now need wired, not wireless.

Important Note:  Come to think of it, now that I recall correctly, the Wang-An workstation did not have a mouse......

image.png.7438c096366620a136a98bf5c03a32a6.png

A great machine...YES...but...

No Mouse

Final Note:  Please believe me....Back in the Day....we had some GLORIOUS Mice....very high quality....but....now they are garbage mice....

Based on the following review, I have decided to go with the DELL MS3220 ...

image.png.8dd9fe934f6c66c1ad65e49f4ba3993f.png

However, this will be only a temporary fix until, hopefully, someone suggests something better.....in the near future.

The MS3220 is 98 grams, which is a heavier weight than my Genius mouse.

Still, this mouse has been sold for about USD9.00 at Walmart in the USA....

So, it is cheap.

I prefer to buy something better, after I hear from you guys.

Enjoy the video-review, though.

Hi Folks....

I just took delivery of the MS3220 DELL mouse, the first one of two that I am buying.

I really like this design, and it feels good in my hand, and is very easy to control.

This is NOT a joke Topic, actually.

Having a great mouse is something easier said than done, these days.

This mouse is very low cost, and it is NOT one of those super-expensive CAD/CAM mice that I recall from yesteryear.....

STILL, this is a definite upgrade from the Logitech mice I have been using, so far.....

I am....

VERY PLEASED with this choice.

I will update further, when I have tested it further...on Linux....

But, of course, this mouse will work very well with any Windows PC, as well.

Hope this Topic is helpful to one or two of you.

Mice are not Toys, Folks.....

Honestly speaking, I am actually quite happy with the Dell option I received.

It's a major improvement.

There might be better mice out there for the money.

Fortunately......I am NOT disappointed, this time.

HUGE IMPROVEMENT, in fact.

And, the best part is that I will no-longer be wasting batteries.....THERE ARE NO BATTERIES.....

I am happy with this mouse by Dell...which is good for an office machine, or a workstation, unless you might be doing a LOT of CAD/CAM work...in which case.....you will not be worrying about price, of course.

I will buy three.

One for each hand makes two. With what will you control the third?

I meant....

I will buy...THREE MORE....

I have already purchased TWO.....

Which will make FIVE.....

There must be some sort of RHYME concerning this....or, do you not recall....?

(These mice are pretty silent in operation, and they glide smoothly along the desk....pretty nice...and I am satisfied, given the low cost.  They are silent as a mouse, in fact. The scrolling action is nice, for mice.  But, it's NOT small.  You might need a BIG HAND to feel comfortable using one.)

Um, did you think I read the whole thread?

Did you ever try using one in the manner of a sewing machine pedal? More often done with Apple Mighty Mice due to only having one button.

I will try.

But, as for now, I just do my mice upgrades, a step at a time....

For sure, joking aside.....I am pretty happy with this major upgrade from the Logitech M325 mice I had been using for over a decade.

NO BATTERIES.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GD batteries, and replacements.....I HATE this aspect of using wireless mice.....

(((I have nothing against the M325 Logitech Mouse.  Such a beauty in it's design, I must admit.  Ergonomically speaking, the M325 has been a true beauty....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!))

So, anyway, concerning the update and my review of the Dell MS3220 mice I purchased:

1. Good mice, I would say.  And, no need to replace batteries that do not exist, which is a huge plus for me.

I  purchased two.  And, I suppose, I will buy a third.

But, I just wish the price were lower, and it could be, maybe, if I were in China.

2. I have used many mice throughout my years at the computer desk. I probably have about 11 in my house, and I don't even know where all are hiding.

image.jpeg.ab96bff0a21d5c13e59384bf75a4e152.jpeg

3.  By far, the best wireless mouse I have ever used is the M235. I think I have about 8 of these.

4.  The Dell mouse cannot compare favorably, ergonomically with the Logitech M235...for me.  Whoever designed the M235 deserves a medal from some design org....you know the one....

5.  For engineering work, then the Dell will not be suitable.  However, for posting on TV, the Dell is overkill.

6.  I guess some here may have used the early "mouse" the BALL type TRACKBALL which was CANADA's gift to computing....(I love Canada, and I love McGill, too...).

image.png.f2fc192935d7531915aba4d140e8bbd5.png

7.  Still, for the money, I am happy with the Dell product....QUITE HAPPY......and....NO BATTERIES, ever again....!!!!

8.  There is always a trade-off, of course, and I do not like the cable of the wired mouse...yet....I find it a very happy medium.....

Note:  And, by the way.....speaking of BALLS and Mouse Cables....

I got my Master's Degree from University of Massachusetts at Lowell.  I used to drive by the Wang building all the time.  We had a few Wang computers at work.  Heck, going back a bit further in time I even used an Osbourne Personal Computer and word perfect

Yeah I too have had numerous meeses over the years.  I have the HP wireless and it is OK but the home stuff I do now I rarely use the mouse and just the touchpad.  In my defense computer work I have used and still do use trackball mice that are built into the station.  Hate them for general use

Compared to WordStar.....

WordPerfect was complete GARBAGE.....

WordStar was so much faster.

Each to their own, of course...but....

WordPerfect was Garbage, just the same......back in 1990, or whenever.

WordStar was the best.

Very intriguing.

So many years since I used WordStar....maybe about 35.

If you feel the need for speed, then just download WordStar and use it on your IBM-DOS machine.

Lightning Fast, for sure....

I use a Rapoo vertical wired mouse which I'm happy with, it has good weight and the cable is flexible enough. They look weird but are easy to adjust to and very comfortable.

Logitech M720 Triathlon mouse

Re the Logitech M720 Triathlon mouse, I think all logitech products are quite good.

The m235 is still great, even after over 12 years.

The design is one of the best, and maybe this is why it has lasted so long.

If I wanted to get another wireless mouse, then I might try the M720, if it is the best for engineering work, as well.

Precision movement of the cursor is important.

I still have about 6 working M235 mice.

But, the batteries wear out too fast, even though it is stated by Logitech that they should last 12 months.

Maybe I am getting fake batteries, but then how would I know?

This is why I prefer the wired mouse.

I don't like being scammed by battery retailers.

NOTE;  It seems that the M235 price has risen about 50 or 60 percent during the past decade, and incredible jump.

We need to stop buying EVERYTHING until the companies preying on us stop gauging us.

We are now in a world of hyperinflation.

The DELL mouse, and I  purchased two, is wired, and OK, but I would not say its a SUPER DUPER mouse.

Very strange design.

How does it even work?

They can feel very strange when first using one, but you get up to speed quickly enough.

I had a Logitech Trackball Mouse, another different type of mouse. If you have RSI from using a regular mouse, they let you use a mouse again without all the pain.
