Trump Urges Zelenskyy to Accept Putin’s Terms

Trump Urges Zelenskyy to Accept Putin’s Terms

Former U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to accept Russian President Vladimir Putin’s terms to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, according to the Financial Times. In private discussions, Trump suggested that Russia’s military strength could devastate Ukraine, urging Zelenskyy to negotiate peace to avoid further destruction. The talks, held during a September 2025 meeting at Trump Tower, reflect Trump’s push for a swift resolution as he campaigns for the 2024 U.S. presidential election. His stance aligns with his broader narrative of prioritizing diplomacy over prolonged military support for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy, however, remains cautious, emphasizing Ukraine’s sovereignty and resilience against Russian aggression. Putin’s terms reportedly include Ukraine ceding occupied territories, such as parts of Donetsk and Luhansk, and abandoning NATO membership aspirations. These demands have been met with resistance from Kyiv, which views them as undermining national integrity. The conflict, now in its third year, has caused significant casualties and economic strain, with Ukraine relying heavily on Western aid. Trump’s intervention highlights the complex interplay of international politics, as the U.S. election looms and global leaders weigh in on the war’s future. Critics argue Trump’s approach risks emboldening Russia, while supporters see it as a pragmatic step toward de-escalation. The discussions underscore the challenges of achieving peace amid entrenched positions and ongoing hostilities.

Key Takeaways

  • Trump’s Diplomacy Push: Trump urged Zelenskyy to negotiate with Putin to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

  • Putin’s Demands: Russia seeks territorial concessions and Ukraine’s neutrality on NATO membership.

  • Global Implications: The talks reflect U.S. election dynamics and the war’s broader economic impact.

So much for the "Ukraine is winning the war" canard.  Even Trump can read the tea leaves.

The Russian SMO is an attrition war, and as Russian President Putin has stated, as in the 20+ year "Winter War" with Finland, Russia can grind away until it meets it's stated objectives.  In a nutshell as state by Putin's spokesman, Demitry Peskov, "Demilitarisation, denazification, (and) ensuring the safety of people living in those regions that have already become Russian, protecting them from direct attacks and actually saving their lives."  And like the goals of the Winter War, to create a neutral buffer between the Russian homeland and an aggressive neighbor, in this case, the NATO proxy, the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

There were original articles on this from those who were in the room when it happened, but they are behind paywall.

This one is not: https://www.helsinkitimes.fi/world-int/28119-ft-trump-demanded-donbas-handover-in-expletive-filled-clash-with-zelensky.html

Filled with shouting and profanity. What the above doesn't mention is that Trump is no longer calling this invasion or war, but instead he used words "special military operation". Where did we hear that one before?

Trump really is a TACO man.

This time he is showing his true self/colours and there has to be something behind it, not just being a plain dumb TACO. Incriminating pictures perhaps; a long outstanding loan; the promise of Russian investment in one of trump's future projects or some sort of corrupt investment activitites by trump or his family members........no-one gets ruled or played like trump has been, without a strong reason/cause!

Perhaps he just accepts the truth ? Russia is winning and Ukraine/EU/NATO/US has no way of stopping them..so best negotiate an settlement or there will be no Ukraine left.

Wish we could capture the conversation Trump had with his pal Vlad.

No doubt the conversion was captured somewhere  you just might have to wait a few decades for it to be leaked..after which the 'leaker' will be hounded and harassed if not imprisoned or assassinated.

The man can't keep his mouth shut... I mean fingers idle, so it might be himself leaking it...

He is perfectly entitled to talk about the negotiations, so far I haven't

seen either side reveal anything of any real substance..just things like it was a robust, frank, lengthy discussion..just bla bla bla

but hey at least they are actually talking  even though telling us nothing.

Though Melania has actually achieved quite a few things from her back channel communications directly to Putin, her husband... less so
