President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged demonstrators to remain peaceful during the upcoming 'Trillion Peso March' on 30 November. While speaking in Busan, South Korea, Marcos acknowledged public frustration over recent corruption revelations concerning government flood-control projects. However, he expressed concerns about potential violence, stressing the need for a peaceful protest.

Marcos's remarks come after a series of anti-corruption protests began on 10 October, building toward the nationwide event. The protests have been fuelled by anger over alleged corruption in infrastructure projects, prompting weekly demonstrations. Marcos emphasised the risks posed by agitators who might disrupt the rally, warning against bringing dangerous items like Molotov cocktails.

In a bid to prevent violence, Marcos appealed to the public to avoid actions that could lead to injuries among demonstrators and police. He reminded participants that police officers are not implicated in the corruption issues being protested. Recent rallies have seen clashes, most notably on 21 September, where riots left two people dead and led to 216 arrests.

Law enforcement is on high alert for the upcoming event. Police Major Hazel Asilo stated that officers are prepared to manage the protest and avoid a repeat of past violence. More than 40 individuals face charges linked to the September riots, emphasising the authorities' commitment to maintaining order.

Looking ahead, all eyes are on the planned demonstration. Authorities are keen to ensure public safety while respecting the right to protest. The event is a significant milestone for the movement against corruption in the Philippines.
