Con Dao, a special zone in Ho Chi Minh City, will launch its inaugural electric bus route in December, according to the municipal Department of Construction. The route, No. 173, will connect the central area of Con Dao with Co Ong Airport using electric buses with seating capacities between 28 and 60. This initiative aims to enhance public transport connectivity on the island, offering an environmentally friendly travel option.

The proposed route will stretch from Con Dao Market to Con Dao Airport, covering approximately 17.1 kilometers. Operations are set to run daily from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with each trip taking about 30 minutes. Buses will be available every 15 minutes, providing frequent services to meet passenger demand efficiently.

Plans for this project follow Con Dao's broader transport strategy, which involves developing a network of six bus routes across the island. These routes will collectively cover around 74 kilometers, designed to serve about 90% of Con Dao's road network. The enhanced connectivity is expected to improve transit between major locations such as Ben Dam Port and the island’s airport.

Experts view the introduction of electric buses as a significant step towards sustainable transportation on Con Dao. It aligns with global trends favoring eco-friendly public transport solutions. The local government aims to reduce environmental impact while improving accessibility and convenience for both residents and tourists.

Looking forward, the Department of Construction and investors will continue their efforts to expand the electric bus network on Con Dao. Following Route No. 173, additional routes will be developed in phases, gradually increasing coverage across the island. This expansion will further solidify Con Dao’s commitment to sustainable development and improved transit infrastructure.

Key Takeaways

  • Con Dao to launch its first electric bus route by December.
