Border Patrol Police Company 327 intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt in Chiang Rai province, seizing approximately 200 kilograms of methamphetamine (“ice”). The operation followed reports of a suspicious vehicle moving drugs through the Pa Miang–Mae Chan forest route. During the interception, suspects opened fire on officers, prompting a return of fire.

At around 00:20 on 7 Nivember, officers under the command of Pol Lt Col Ananwath Rattanawichai spotted a grey-black Ford pickup truck at Pa Sang intersection in Mae Chan district. The vehicle, registered in Chiang Rai, failed to stop for inspection and fled toward Mae Sai district. One passenger, later identified as Mr. Ja Ue, jumped from the vehicle, while officers pursued the driver.

The chase continued to the area in front of Mae Kham School, where the fleeing driver fired shots at the officers. A firefight ensued and the vehicle driver, eventually lost control and overturned near Ban San Kong School in Mae Rai subdistrict. Authorities recovered ten rainbow-coloured sacks containing approximately 200kg of methamphetamine.

Mr. Ja Ue, who had jumped from the truck, was injured while attempting to escape and was taken to Mae Chan Hospital for treatment. The driver remains at large, with authorities conducting a manhunt to apprehend him and bring him to justice.

The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by Thailand’s Border Patrol Police to combat cross-border drug trafficking and secure northern border provinces. Officials confirmed that all recovered narcotics will be processed as evidence in accordance with national drug enforcement laws.
