Flood of Chinese Green Tech Is Upending Global Climate Politics

Featured Replies

As the United States torpedoes climate action and Europe struggles to realize its green ambitions, a surprising shift is taking hold in many large, fast-growing economies where a majority of the world’s people live.

Countries like Brazil, India, and Vietnam are rapidly expanding solar and wind power. Poorer countries like Ethiopia and Nepal are leapfrogging over gasoline-burning cars to battery-powered ones.

I remember when right wingers were shedding tears over their dogma that developing nations were going to suffer because of green tech. That fossil fuels were the way to go for development. I imagine that now they will be jumping for joy over the fact that their fears were unfounded. That, in fact, green tech is not just better for the environment, but better for economic development as well.

A NY Times article LOL

It makes complete sense for sunny countries to use solar panels.

Not so much the UK and Northern Europe.

As for the USA ..... same.

Obviously, not government and big companies destroying the countryside, but private homeowners reducing their dependence on corporations and national grids.

Nonsense we have plenty of sun and wind it’s just Donnie kowtowing to the money that put him were he is he doesn’t give a fig about the states don’t be fooled.now if we ever come up with a cheap and reliable way to store all of this free non polluting energy it will absolutely take off!!

Anything driven and taxed by leftist ideology is probably not worth having.

Waiting for my 15kwhr battery to arrive, just over $1,000 in Thailand, but probably taxed to $2,000 by leftist governments in the western world ($3,500 in the UK).

Why do leftist governments tax things they proclaim is good for the world?

I couldn't afford 'green energy' in the UK, too many taxes on it!

You knowledge of energy production in the USA is exceeded by your adherence to the rules of grammar and punctuation.

Tell us about the solar farms in Northern Michigan.

It must feel so liberating just to spout claims off the top of your head. As for leftist governments, I assume that you are referring to a government headed by that arch socialist Donald Trump who has imposed huge tariffs on imports from China, by far the largest source of  battery manufacturers in the world. So, maybe you're making a good point after all.

We have to go green but AI is taking more and more power .

Let everything AI go green first.

Where does all the solar farm and wind turbine waste go. It's monstrously destructive. Solar on homes, apartment buildings, and garage and parking lot roofs I can see. But solar farms and windfarms are not only boondoggles, they're environmentally toxic.

China does manufacturing better than the West.
West's reaction: "China is a danger to the West because they over produce and the West can't compete.

China does "Green Energy" better than the West.
West's reaction: "China's advantages in "Green Energy" are a danger to the world.

China does batteries better than the West.
West reaction: "Chinese made batteries are junk."

If you can't compete, then indulge in ad-hominid attacks.

Well with respect to the first two, I would refer you to concepts such as dumping, violation of intellectual property rights, industrial espionage, environmental rape and slave labour.

Sometimes nuance is required.

Tell us about the solar farms in Northern Michigan.

Don’t know anything about northern Michigan seems a bit north for a solar farm though….I do have a solar grid tied system on my San Diego home our bill went from 250$ on average to 20$ on average now…..one of my Arizona properties is off grid just finished up a small trailer mounted system it’s running that place for free except the cost of 8 golf cart 6 volt batteries the inverter I run on that one is a pure sine wave 5 kw or 5000 watt seems to handle it quite well.anyway I like the free stuff but it’s wayyyy easier to be lazy and just be on grid…..it also doesn’t take any skill knowledge or talent like the off grid stuff does.cheers!

Take it up with Britman Too. He's the one who claims leftists are driving up the cost of batteries.

It’s the storage of the energy that’s costly the solar cells inverters and charge controllers aren’t cheap but tend to last once bought….building the system is fun! but I just like building stuff keeps me happy!😃

I wanted solar for my townhouse, the roof is small and it faces the wrong way.  So, the payoff is longer then I’ll live there.

Makes sense my San Diego house is orentated just about perfectly and the pitch of the roof is close as well so it worked out.I just paid cash for mine didn’t want any debt against the house cause it’s payed off.

Another case of your reading miscomprehension. Britman Too was comparing the low cost of batteries in Thailand to what he believed was the high cost in Western countries. He blamed leftist governments in the western world. I pointed out to him that China is by far the largest source of batteries and that if he's going to blame leftists for the rise in costs that must mean that Trump is a leftist since he's imposing huge tariffs on chinese goods.

Forget Northern Michigan. How about a solar farm in Alaska?

Alaska's Largest Solar Farm now Powering MEA Members

On Tuesday, August 29, 2023 Renewable IPP, CleanCapital, Alaska Energy Authority and Matanuska Electric Association held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the launch of Alaska's new largest, 8.5 MW solar farm. More than 100 guests attended the ceremony including partners who helped make the project a success from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, City of Houston, MEA, AEA, and state and local officials. The 8.5 MW Houston Solar Farm -the largest solar site in the state - is located in the City of Houston, Alaska on Matanuska-Susitna Borough land.

As for intellectual property rights and industrial espionage...if that is the case as far as batteries go, then Chinese agents must be traveling into the future to steal the western companies' manufacturing secrets since they are mostly ahead of the West now.

There are some very promising battery technologies being developed in the USA, but since the Trump administration prefers to nurture  nuclear and fossil fuel development, those advances will probably be brought to fruition elsewhere

1400 houses max, bet it comes to half of that. And the government paid for it. And its Alaska. You have never been there.
