Dong Nai Province has approved over VND37 trillion (US$1.45 billion) for new infrastructure projects to improve connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International Airport. The projects include the Cat Lai Bridge, Dong Nai 2 Bridge, and phase two of Huong Lo 2 Road. This initiative aims to enhance regional transport and freight capacity across the 40 km region.

The decision follows the provincial People's Council's approval on November 10 for the second phase of the Huong Lo 2 project. This phase will cover a 7.5-kilometer stretch from Vam Cai Sut Bridge to the HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway and is expected to conclude by 2028. The project, under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, involves over VND5.9 trillion in funding, including VND573 billion for land clearance.

In addition, the council greenlit the construction of the Cat Lai and Dong Nai 2 (Long Hung) bridges to strengthen links between Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City. The Cat Lai Bridge will be 11.6 kilometers long, featuring six motor lanes, and is set to start construction by late 2025. Dong Nai 2 Bridge will span 12 kilometers with an investment of approximately VND11.76 trillion.

The Dong Nai People’s Committee emphasizes the importance of these projects to complete the transport network and reduce travel times between economic hubs. Currently, connections are limited by the existing infrastructure including the Dong Nai 1 Bridge, Long Thanh Bridge, and Nhon Trach Bridge. The new projects are anticipated to significantly enhance the southeast's economic corridor and regional mobility.

Looking ahead, construction on these projects is expected to commence soon, with completion aimed for 2028. These developments coincide with the anticipated opening of Long Thanh International Airport by mid-2026, which would further boost regional connectivity and economic opportunities.

Key Takeaways

  • Dong Nai Province approves major transport projects worth $1.45 billion.
  • Initiatives will connect Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh Airport.
  • Projects target completion by 2028, aligning with airport opening plans.
