A late-night landslide nearly caused a passenger bus to plunge into a ravine on Mimosa Pass, a critical southern entrance to Da Lat, late Wednesday. The incident occurred at 11 p.m. when a Phuong Trang bus was traveling through Lam Dong Province. Its front wheel fell into a large gap created by the landslide, leaving the bus dangerously close to the edge.

Poor weather worsened the situation, with rain and slippery roads affecting visibility. The bus driver escaped unharmed, confirmed by the local ward's People's Committee representative, and was the only person on board. In response, authorities have closed the pass and are planning to safely recover the vehicle from the site.

The current incident is part of a series of problems plaguing the 11-km Mimosa Pass, part of National Highway 20, which includes Da Lat's essential southern routes like the Prenn and Sacom passes. Earlier in the day, a fallen tree had blocked the road, and just two days earlier, another landslide had occurred. Officials are now focusing on developing plans to repair and secure this vital route.

The recent spate of infrastructure issues extends beyond Mimosa Pass. Several significant roads around Da Lat, such as the Prenn Pass near Datanla Waterfall and National Highway 20 near D’ran Pass, are experiencing erosion and subsidence. Landslides have also impacted Ngoan Muc Pass and Khanh Le Pass, marking a challenging period for travel between Nha Trang and Da Lat.

This series of natural events follows the tragic rockslide on Khanh Le Pass late Sunday, which resulted in six fatalities and involved another Phuong Trang passenger bus, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • A landslide on Mimosa Pass nearly caused a bus accident; the driver escaped safely.
  • Mimosa Pass is closed, following a recent pattern of infrastructure challenges in Da Lat.
  • Authorities work to address ongoing road damage amid a history of recent landslides.
