Gold rush costs Thailand US$1 mil.

Host nation Thailand's success at the World University Games has landed the government with a huge bill under a generous cash reward scheme it offered to all Thai medalists.

The total sum so far is 37 million baht (US$1.16 million) after Thai competitors won 26 medals in six sports ranging from athletics to taekwondo -- but that sum could rise further with three days remaining.
