Police have arrested a 30-year-old Chinese man accused of illegally producing disposable electronic cigarette pods mixed with the controlled substance etomidate, in a condominium in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district. The raid, led on the evening of 25 November 68 by Pol. Lt. Gen. Achayon Kraithong, Commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB), resulted in the seizure of more than 1,000 ready-to-use vape pods, large quantities of etomidate and flavouring agents and production equipment worth over 600,000 baht. The raid lead to the detention of the suspect, known as “Ah Wang” or Mr Wang, on charges of producing a category 2 psychotropic substance with intent to sell.

The operation followed an earlier NSB investigation into Chinese nationals allegedly selling vape pods mixed with etomidate in Pattaya, Chonburi province. Police intelligence indicated that the main production base was located in the Huai Khwang area of Bangkok, prompting further surveillance and the eventual raid on a 41st-floor condominium room on Ratchadaphisek Road. According to investigators, the suspect had been in Thailand for several months and was being paid 150,000 baht per month by an unnamed investor group to manufacture the illegal products.

Officers reported that the distribution process involved arranging sales with customers via online channels, after which the suspect would deliver the vape pods by bicycle to agreed meeting points within the Huai Khwang area. Each pod containing etomidate was reportedly priced at around 600 baht per unit. Etomidate, used medically as an anaesthetic, is classified as a category 2 psychotropic substance controlled under Thai law and legally requires authorisation from the Food and Drug Administration for import, with a purchase value of approximately 600,000 baht per kilogramme.

The NSB stated that the arrest highlights ongoing concerns about illicit drug-related activities involving foreign nationals and organised networks operating across multiple provinces. Police indicated that the case forms part of a broader crackdown linked to the earlier Pattaya arrests and the suspected trafficking of controlled chemicals into Thailand. Authorities did not disclose further information about the alleged financiers behind the operation.

Daily News reported that investigators are expected to continue tracing the supply chain, including the source of the etomidate and any additional individuals connected to the production network. Police have signalled that more arrests may follow as evidence is analysed and digital communication channels are examined. Legal proceedings against the suspect will continue while officers consider extending the investigation to identify wider distribution routes and potential links to cross-border criminal activity.
