Lien Khuong Airport, serving Da Lat, will close from March 4 to August 25, 2026, for a major upgrade. This VND966 billion (US$36.6 million) project includes constructing a new 3,250-meter runway and updating taxiways and drainage systems. The closure period was shortened by two months following discussions between the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Lam Dong Province authorities.

Built in 1933 and last renovated in 1997, Lien Khuong is located 28 kilometers from downtown Da Lat. The airport currently meets ICAO 3C standards but will be upgraded to code 4E as part of Vietnam’s airport development plan to 2030. This upgrade will enable the airport to accommodate larger aircraft such as Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s, along with up to 5 million passengers and 20,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

Lam Dong’s vice chairman Nguyen Hong Hai emphasized the need for ACV to mobilize resources quickly and to move ahead with plans for a new T2 terminal and cargo facilities. These steps are necessary for enhancing the province’s aviation infrastructure comprehensively. Upon completion, calibration flights will be conducted before the airport resumes commercial operations.

Future phases of development include extending the runway to 3,600 meters and increasing the airport's capacity to 7 million passengers. Additional plans feature construction of Terminal T2, an aircraft maintenance zone, expanded cargo facilities, and a new fuel station, ensuring the airport can meet growing demands, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways
