Accident Crash Leaves Three Dead, Including 8-Year-Old, in Chachoengsao Collision with Army Truck

A devastating road crash in Chachoengsao province has claimed the lives of three people, including an eight-year-old boy, after a military transport truck collided with a motorcycle sidecar. One woman was also seriously injured and rushed to hospital. The incident occurred at approximately 14:30 o22 April, on Route 3481 in Moo 9, Mon Thong Subdistrict, Bang Nam Priao District. Police from Bang Khonak Station, medical personnel, and rescue teams, along with Pol. Lt. Gen. Kriengkrai Boonsorn, Chief of Chachoengsao Provincial Police, responded swiftly to the scene. Authorities found the army truck off the road in a grass verge, with the remains of the motorcycle sidecar completely destroyed and scattered across the roadside. In a nearby drainage ditch, the bodies of three victims were discovered: Mr. Rungkit, aged 25; Ms. Somchit, aged 56; and an unnamed 8-year-old boy. A fourth victim, a woman, suffered critical injuries and was immediately taken to hospital. Initial investigations revealed that the army truck was returning from a training exercise in Lopburi and heading back to its base in Koh Chan, Phanat Nikhom District, Chonburi. The military driver stated that the motorcycle with sidecar had veered across the centre line into his lane, and despite braking, he was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. Relatives of the deceased explained that Mr. Rungkit had been driving the motorcycle sidecar, taking family members into the city of Chachoengsao to withdraw social security funds. The crash occurred as they were reportedly on their way home. The bodies have been taken to hospital for autopsy, and police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Legal proceedings will follow. Why haven't you learned Thai even after several years as an expat in Thailand?
I kinda agree with you on that. A lot depends on where you start out. I find folks who grow up bilingual tend to have an easier time picking up others languages as an adult. I grew up as bilingual English/Spanish and as an adult picked up Mandarin, Thai and Lao, not the easiest as they are tonal, but I figured it out. All my kids are multilingual, did the tried and trusted method of each parent only speaking one, but different language to them. Now I would have to say, for whatever reason native English speakers seem to have the hardest time picking up languages. My ex wife could not master Spanish with me at all, and given the general age of expats in Thailand I'd postulate that difficulty gets worse the older you get, especially trying to learn a tonal language. So I also say it's arrogant not to learn Thai, more a case of they probably simply cant. It gets harder to rewire the brain as we age! On a nerdy note, and it may explain something about the aging brain, my two native languages float around in my head seamlessly, thoughts flipping from English to Spanish. My learned language's don't work that way, I never 'think' in them and I constantly translate them in my head
