Anti-corruption authorities arrested a 33-year-old tax official on 27 November 2025 for allegedly demanding a 100,000-baht bribe from a business in exchange for waiving state tax liabilities of 800,000 baht. The operation was carried out by officers from the Police Anti-Corruption Division (ปปป.), the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (ป.ป.ท.), and the National Anti-Corruption Commission (ป.ป.ช.) following a court-issued warrant. The arrest took place at the Bangkok Revenue Department Area Office in the Anusawari Subdistrict, Bang Khen District, Bangkok.

The arrest was ordered by Pol. Lt. Gen. Jaroonkiat Pankaew, Deputy Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, directing Pol. Maj. Gen. Prasong Chalimpun, Pol. Col. Permwut Pratoomraj, and other senior officials, alongside Poomvisan Kasemsuk, Secretary-General of ป.ป.ท., Pol. Lt. Col. Siripong Sritula, and Phattanaphong Chanphetphul, Assistant Secretary-General of ป.ป.ช. The suspect, identified as Chitphon, held the position of Tax Audit Operations Officer under the Bangkok Revenue Department Area 8, and was detained under Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Case Warrant No. 104/2568 dated 25 November 2025. He faces multiple charges relating to unlawful solicitation of benefits, misconduct and abuse of authority as a state official.

The case began on 14 November when a company engaged in the sale of health food products reported to investigators that the tax official had audited its annual tax records for 2023–2024. He allegedly calculated that the company owed approximately 800,000 baht in tax and penalties due to discrepancies between VAT filings and the corporate income tax form (ภ.ง.ด.50). The complaint stated that the official then offered to “end the matter” if the business paid him 100,000 baht under the table instead of remitting the tax to the state.

According to the report, the company negotiated the amount down to 50,000 baht and initially paid 40,000 baht. Feeling the process was unjust, the company then filed a complaint with the Police Anti-Corruption Division. Investigators subsequently gathered evidence and obtained a court warrant before arranging a sting operation in which the remaining 10,000 baht was delivered, leading to the arrest and seizure of the cash as evidence.

Khoasod reported that during questioning, the suspect denied all allegations. He was taken into custody and handed over to investigators at Division 1 of the Police Anti-Corruption Bureau for legal proceedings. Authorities have not announced further action but confirmed the case will continue under due process.

Though I in no way condone what the perp did, pleading "Not Guilty" upon arrest is a good idea in any situation.  Even if caught  with your hand in the jar, initially not admitting the crime gives both you and more importantly your lawyer a bit of room to maneuver resulting perhaps in a shorter incarceration or lower fines.
