A 28-year-old man, identified only as Nattakorn, has been arrested for fatally assaulting a friend with a single punch. The incident left the victim critically injured and ultimately led to his death after over a month of hospitalisation. Authorities apprehended Nattakorn in Chumphon province.

The assault occurred in the Bang Ping community, Mueang district, Samut Prakan, after Nattakorn met his long-time friend, Mai. The two were drinking beer when Nattakorn embraced Mai, saying, “I’m happy to see you.” Mai reacted by pushing Nattakorn, who then punched him once, causing Mai to fall and hit his head on a concrete edge.

The fall resulted in severe injuries, requiring more than a month of medical treatment before Mai passed away. Nattakorn, who had been released from prison less than a year ago for a previous homicide, fled to Chumphon province after the incident. Police later arrested him near a local market on 29 November 2025, acting on a Samut Prakan Provincial Court warrant issued on 24 June 2022.

During questioning, Nattakorn admitted to all charges. The case is being processed at the Mueang Samut Prakan Police Station, where he faces prosecution for causing death by assault. Authorities emphasised the ongoing investigation and the legal consequences for violent behaviour.

Matichon reported that the incident has sparked discussions on post-release supervision of violent offenders and community safety measures. Further proceedings will determine the full legal outcome for Nattakorn, with police continuing to examine all aspects of the case. Authorities also highlighted the importance of resolving conflicts without resorting to violence.

In all fairness, the kid died from hitting his head on the kerb not the punch. This is not even manslaughter, grievous bodily harm at worst. RIP.

"The two were drinking beer ..."

As these stories so often start.

Suggest you read section 290 of the Thai Penal Code - Causing Death by Assault – Thai Penal Code

A person who commits an assault (intentionally causes harm to another person) and thereby causes the death of the victim, without intending to cause death, is guilty of manslaughter.

The code states the penalty:is possible imprisonment from 3 to 15 years

The code also highlights this provision applies when:

The offender intended to assault (cause bodily harm),

But did not intend to kill,

Yet the assault resulted in death.

Oh well, at least he'll have friends to visit when he goes back to prison.
