Vietnam's major airlines have successfully updated critical flight-control software on their Airbus A320 and A321 jets, allowing the aircraft to resume normal operations. The updates were completed just in time for the European regulators' deadline on November 30. This swift action by Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, Bamboo Airways, and Vietravel Airlines ensured smooth operations with no reported disruptions or delays.

Vietnam Airlines coordinated intensive night shifts across maintenance centers in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate the updates. The airline effectively managed its resources and schedules to complete the installations ahead of schedule, releasing each aircraft back into service promptly after undergoing safety checks. Vietjet also successfully updated all 69 of its A320-family planes by early Sunday morning, maintaining almost uninterrupted flight schedules through seamless collaboration between domestic and international technical teams.

Both Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines confirmed that their Airbus fleets were not subject to the update requirement. The collaborative efforts of all Vietnamese carriers avoided technical setbacks, leading to a trouble-free transition. Vietnam's aviation chief, Uong Viet Dung, commended the airlines for their rapid response following Airbus's recall on November 28 of 6,000 A320-series jets globally. The recall addressed a software issue with the ELAC flight-control system, which is essential for managing aircraft pitch and direction.

In coordination with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's order, airlines and regulators held emergency meetings to handle the updates and minimize passenger inconvenience. Currently, Vietnam operates 14 commercial and specialized airlines with a fleet of 254 aircraft. Anticipating expansion to roughly 400 jets by 2030, the country is poised for growth in both domestic and international aviation routes, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Vietnam's carriers updated A320, A321 software ahead of schedule.
  • No technical problems or flight delays occurred during implementation.
  • Vietnamese aviation is set for continued expansion through 2030.
