A 64-year-old woman identified as Ms Manchana died and her two grandchildren were critically injured after a collision with a pickup truck carrying fighting cattle at about 18:30 on 1 December 2025. The trio were travelling on a red Honda motorcycle toward a shop to use state welfare benefits when they were struck at the U-turn point at Ban Hua Thanon on the four-lane Buriram–Satuek road. Emergency responders from Ban Dan Police Station and Ban Dan Hospital attended the scene and rushed the injured children to hospital.

Officers found the motorcycle against the central divider and Ms Manchana initially unconscious; she later died. Nearby lay an eight-year-old boy, P2 pupil Nong Phu and about 10 metres away an 11-year-old P5 pupil, Nong Mai, both in school uniform and unconscious with multiple serious injuries. Paramedics provided first aid and transferred Nong Mai and Nong Phu in critical condition to Buriram Hospital for specialist treatment.

The pickup truck involved was a Toyota registered in Buriram, driven by Mr Auan, 53, who was transporting five fighting cattle to sell at the Yasothon cattle market. Mr Auan told investigators that the motorcycle suddenly cut in front of his vehicle at close range when he reached the U-turn, leaving him no time to brake and causing a heavy impact to the centre of the motorcycle. Police noted the pickup’s front windscreen was shattered and the grille damaged.

A relative, Mr Jamlong, 62 and the deceased’s younger brother, said his sister routinely travelled to town at the start of each month to claim state welfare card benefits. This time she had taken her grandchildren because an extra payment of 1,150 baht was due.

Naewna reported that local officers from Ban Dan Police Station have begun gathering evidence and will take witness statements to determine the precise cause of the collision. Prosecutors and traffic investigators will complete forensic checks as part of the legal process and any formal charges against the pickup driver are expected once hospital reports and the police investigation are finalised.

Can you imagine anything more  dangerous than these U turns ,the driver has slow down in the fast lane and then attempt to  enter the fast lane on the other side, absolutely crazey. I see now they are providing deceleration lane and acceleration lanes however there is problem with these  as manny drivers dont understand the workings ,that they are supposed to accelerate and slip into the fast lane.

I would help if government produced a TV advert showing how to use these crossing and we might just save some lives.
