A factory worker in Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon, was seriously injured when fireworks he was secretly producing detonated inside his rented room late on 4 December 2025. The explosion damaged multiple units in the two-storey building and left debris scattered across corridors and neighbouring rooms. The incident prompted a rapid response from police, explosive ordnance officers and forensic teams, who later confirmed the presence of extensive firework-making materials.

Police from Krathum Baen Police Station received the report around midnight and quickly alerted senior officers before attending the scene with local investigators, EOD personnel and forensic specialists. The blast occurred in room 117/45 of a rental building in Moo 3, Om Noi, where officers found widespread damage including collapsed ceiling panels, broken lighting fixtures and shattered tinted glass. Numerous small firework components, tools and several fully assembled fireworks ready for sale were discovered throughout the room.

The shockwave also damaged glass panels in adjacent units and affected rooms directly below, leaving a total of 10 rooms with varying levels of destruction. Inside the affected unit, officers found the injured tenant, later identified as Khwanchai, who lives there with his wife and works at a nearby factory. He sustained severe injuries to his hands and legs, along with burns across his body and was taken to Vichaivej Om Noi Hospital prior to police arrival, while his wife remained unharmed.

The building owner said the couple had rented the room for more than 10 years and were known for keeping to themselves. He stated he had no knowledge that the tenant was producing fireworks, adding that nothing suspicious had ever been observed by neighbours. CCTV footage showed Khwanchai making fireworks alone in front of his room shortly before a loud explosion and flash of light erupted, after which his wife led him to safety before taking him to hospital.

Daily News reported that investigators believe the fireworks were being produced for sale during the upcoming New Year period. Police and forensic officers have collected all materials, tools and debris from the scene to be used as evidence in legal proceedings. Officers will also interview the injured man and his wife again to determine the extent of the illegal activity and pursue charges in accordance with the law.
