Rescue workers in Phichit province were called to retrieve a submerged motorcycle from a pond in the middle of rice fields, only to discover the body of a 33-year-old man bound and dead underwater nearby. The incident, which occurred in Moo 3, Wang Samrong subdistrict, Bang Mun Nak district, prompted an immediate police investigation due to the unusual condition in which the body was found. Officers have since sent the body for forensic examination to determine the cause of death.

Police were notified on 4 December 2025 after local residents reported spotting a motorcycle underwater in the remote pond. Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Thongphon Sangkasem and Bang Mun Nak Police Superintendent Pol Col Phongsak Wiriyakasem led investigators, forensic officers, medical staff and rescue workers to the location. Rescuers recovered the body of Anuphan Songcharoen, 33, a resident of the same village, from beneath the surface.

The victim was found wearing a black T-shirt and jeans, with thick layers of adhesive tape tightly wrapped around both wrists and both ankles. His feet had been looped above his wrists, creating an appearance of his wrists and ankles being bound together despite the tape being applied separately. Police reported no visible injuries on his body and estimated that he had died earlier the same day, as the body remained relatively fresh.

Rescue workers also retrieved the motorcycle believed to be his from the pond. Earlier, villagers had spotted the vehicle submerged and contacted Por Teck Tung Foundation rescuers from the Bang Mun Nak unit to recover it. During the retrieval operation, rescuers discovered the body lying nearby, prompting immediate notification of police due to the suspicious circumstances.

Manager online reported that officers requested forensic specialists from Phichit province to conduct a detailed examination at the scene before transferring the body to Bang Mun Nak Hospital. From there, it was moved to Naresuan University Hospital in Phitsanulok for a full autopsy. Authorities will use the autopsy results, forensic evidence and witness accounts to determine whether the cause if death.
