Police in Satun are investigating after the body of a 73-year-old woman, identified as Suda, was found buried in a pit inside her home’s garage following reports of suspicious behaviour on 5 December. Officers from Manang Police Station attended the house in Moo 1, Palm Phatthana subdistrict, together with local administrative officials and the Rom Sai rescue foundation after relatives raised concerns that the household was concealing a death. A relative reported that the son admitted burying his mother three days earlier and was taken into custody for further questioning.

Village head Adun Chukaew said neighbours alerted authorities because the household appeared abnormal and the owner initially refused entry, claiming there was a bedridden patient inside. When officers were finally allowed to enter the property the following morning they found the son, identified as Pitak, about 41 years old, who told the village head that “mother has died and I buried her inside the house for three days.” Officers described the suspect’s manner as confused and disoriented and they escorted him to Manang Police Station for additional interrogation.

Relatives provided background on the family situation, saying Suda had been bedridden and that Pitak, the eldest son, had a prior history of drug use and had completed rehabilitation before returning to live with his mother about five to six months ago. An aunt and cousin of the deceased, named Sunan, said she had visited previously and was told by the son that “mother went to Bangkok; someone came to pick her up,” a statement she found implausible given Suda’s condition. Neighbours and relatives said they had not observed any outward signs of trouble until the recent disclosure and remained uncertain whether the death resulted from natural causes or foul play.

Amarin reported that police investigators have not yet concluded the cause of death and are awaiting autopsy and forensic results. Officers will conduct detailed interviews with Pitak and other family members and standard legal procedures will follow depending on the findings of the post-mortem examination. Authorities emphasised that they will not determine the cause of death until all forensic and investigative steps are complete.
