Police have arrested a suspected gunman known as “Kan Vellfire” following a fatal shooting that left a man dead, ending a multi-province manhunt on Koh Chang in Trat province. The suspect was detained on the evening of 24 December 2025 while allegedly attempting to flee towards the border and is now in custody for questioning. Authorities said the arrest was made without resistance and prevents any immediate risk of further violence.

The suspect has been identified as Mr Songkran, also known as Kan, aged 37. Earlier on 24 December 2025, investigators from Prachachuen Police Station sought and obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court, numbered 7494/2568. The charges include homicide, attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a firearm in public without permission and discharging a firearm in a community area without justification.

According to police, the shooting occurred following a road-related confrontation at the Prachachuen checkpoint, where a 34-year-old man was shot dead while inside his vehicle. The suspect allegedly fled the scene driving a white Toyota Vellfire, which was later abandoned at a hotel in Nakhon Pathom province. He then continued his escape by taking multiple taxis across several provinces.

Investigators said one taxi driver became suspicious after agreeing to a fixed fare of 2,500 baht for a trip towards Rayong. The suspect reportedly claimed he had recently been released from prison and had no cash, offering to pay later via digital transfer or an ATM stop. Fearing non-payment, the driver secretly photographed the passenger while he was asleep.

Instead of being dropped at Central Rayong as initially stated, the suspect asked to be let out under a motorway bridge in the Ban Bueng area. There, a male associate driving a bronze Toyota Yaris paid the taxi fare in cash. Police said the suspect then went to his wife’s residence, collected his wife and two sons, rented a white Toyota Fortuner and fled towards Trat province.

Later that evening, police tracked the suspect to a resort on Koh Chang, where two rooms had been booked, one for the suspect and one for an associate who allegedly assisted in the escape. After questioning those involved, officers moved in and took Mr Songkran into custody without incident.

Amarin reported that authorities said the suspect will be transferred for formal interrogation and legal proceedings. Police are continuing to question individuals who may have helped him evade arrest, while further investigative steps are underway to complete the case file.
