Immigration police have arrested two South Korean men wanted on criminal charges in their home country, after discovering they were illegally staying in Thailand and allegedly linked to a cross-border online scam network. The arrests were carried out on 26 December 2025 by Immigration Bureau Division 1 as part of a proactive crackdown on transnational crime. Authorities said the operation underscores Thailand’s stance against being used as a refuge for international fugitives.

The suspects were detained following intelligence that foreign nationals connected to online fraud rings were hiding in Bangkok. Officers traced the men to accommodation in the On Nut area, where the first suspect, a 45-year-old South Korean man identified as Mr Wang, was found in an apartment. He was unable to present a valid passport, showing only a photograph and checks revealed no lawful record of entry into Thailand, despite evidence he had previously left and travelled to Cambodia without a recorded re-entry.

Further verification with the South Korean Embassy in Thailand confirmed that the first suspect was wanted under an arrest warrant for fraud. The alleged offence involved losses exceeding 70 million won, or nearly 2 million baht. Immigration officers then expanded the investigation and located a second suspect, aged 51, hiding in the same hotel complex.

Checks showed the second man’s permission to remain in Thailand had expired, and he was also subject to arrest warrants in South Korea. These included three cases of forging official documents and an additional fraud case involving approximately 150 million won, or around 3 million baht. Both men were taken into custody for immigration violations while extradition-related procedures are considered.

Senior officers said deeper investigation uncovered evidence of communications linked to scam applications targeting South Korean victims. The alleged operations were believed to be based in Cambodia, suggesting the suspects were part of a wider transnational scammer network. Authorities are now coordinating with domestic and international agencies to expand the case and identify further suspects.

Police Major General Prasat Khemmaprasit, Commander of Immigration Division 1, said the operation reflected Thailand’s commitment to combating transnational crime. He stressed that the country would not serve as a safe haven for offenders and that strict legal action would be taken to maintain public confidence and long-term security.

Thaitabloid reported that investigations are continuing, with Thai authorities working alongside foreign counterparts to pursue further legal action and possible extradition proceedings.
