What would the consensus be?

Is it better nowadays to come in Visa Exempt and then extend, or get an SETV and extend? Its been a while since I have extended an trip.

Or is there no difference. I have 17 exempt entries over the past few years none over 30 days. I have never had any problem entering in 35 ish years.
