Billionaire investor in Greenland encouraged Trump to Acquire It

US president’s friend Ronald Lauder – who first proposed Arctic expansion – is now making deals in the island

Like many of those around the president, Lauder’s policy suggestions appear to intersect with his business interests. As Trump has ratcheted up his threats to seize Greenland, Lauder has acquired commercial holdings there. Lauder is also part of the consortium whose desire to access Ukrainian minerals appears to have spurred Trump to demand a share of the war-torn country’s resources.

I really admire the Greenland citizens, it seems that they have finally found the true meaning of MAGA as you can see. Amazing people.

Some important details are left out of this plot: All land and mineral rights rest with the people of Greenland/Denmark and cannot be foreign owned. Foreigners even through nominee companies are not allowed to purchase land in Greenland. Sound familiar?

Interesting indeed. Actually, even Greenlanders are not allowed to own land privately, they can only get exclusive land use rights. Land is considered as a communal property. Foreigners can also get land use rights, under certain conditions (ex. 2 year residency).

Mining companies need a permit or licence.

No wonder the forum marxists are suddenly so loved up on Greenland. Reminds much of their man Klaus Shwab's "you'll own nothing and be happy".

It must be obvious to even the dullest blade by now that Trump WILL own Greenland. China/Russia lovers and other marxists will just have to suck this one up.

You mean if the US acquires Greenland those laws will still be valid and unalterable? What's your point?

Lol! It's an Inuit tradition to collectively own land. I doubt they were Marxist! 😆

... plus a couple more stuffed sphincterfaces and techbros - including that Thiel creep with his freedumm state bs.

Greenland - amongst plenty of other stuff - apparently is also sitting on over 20% of worldwide drinking water reserves btw. ...

Following link should come translated already:

Bezos & Thiel are already in: Greenland is becoming the playing field for the tech elite.

So therefore the existing Greenlandic constitutional settlement (and thus it's sovereignty) must be overthrown, and it must become part of the United States before Ronald Lauder and Trump's other wealthy backers can move in and start exploiting the place!

Makes sense I suppose.

But then it was never about security, the USA can, by treaty, pretty well have whatever military bases it wants in Greenland.

Yes. American seizure of Greenland will not abrogate the Greenlanders' rights. There are already precedents set in the continuation of indigenous rights. Worcester v. Georgia, 31 U.S. (6 Pet.) 515 (1832). Chief Justice John Marshall wrote that the U.S. is legally bound to respect their native peoples rights. “Indian nations had always been considered as distinct, independent political communities, retaining their original natural rights, as the undisputed possessors of the soil ... The very term nation so generally applied to them, means ‘a people distinct from others."

Well, the decision by Marshall wouldn't apply to Greenland. There were a series of cases starting in 1901 that drew a distinction between incorporated and unincorporated territories. These cases are known as the insular cases. Basically, the court ruled that residents of unincorporated territories don't enjoy the the same protections afforded by the Constitution as do residents of the United States. So, unless the USA plans to treat Greenland as a prospective state, those rights wouldn't be guaranteed.

Well, the US robbed native Americans of the land in the past so I doubt they will hesitate to steal Greenland.

I can't imagine what will happen to free education and healthcare in Greenland. I guess mainland Americans will just have to suck it up.

Clearly, it was obvious to the dullest blades. Not so much to the rest of us.

TACO prevails: Stocks jump after Trump calls off Greenland tariffs

US stocks ripped higher late in Wednesday's session as Trump walked back his latest tariff threats.

The president said he had reached a framework deal with NATO countries over Greenland.

The president soothed markets earlier after he said he wouldn't use force to take over Greenland.
