Europe Seeks UK Nuclear Alliance Amid US Uncertainty!

Featured Replies

In a dramatic turn, European leaders consider bolstering their nuclear capabilities independently of the US amid President Trump's unpredictable actions. His increasing threats toward NATO and a push for expansionist policies have ignited urgent discussions among European nations to reevaluate their defense strategies against Russia without American involvement.

Multiple senior European officials have engaged in intense and productive talks, with some seeing this as a potential pivot toward France and the UK for nuclear options or even developing their own arsenals. "We're navigating the protection of Europe, nuclear deterrence with or without the United States," a senior official revealed, hinting at the shifting defense paradigm.

This exploration roots from Trump’s erratic relations with Europe and Vladimir Putin's resilience in testing NATO boundaries. Canada has similarly reconsidered its US ties, looking to China as a more stable partner—a move that reflects broader geopolitical realignments.

The urgency escalates as global leaders meet at the Davos World Economic Forum, confronting Trump's threats over Greenland—a Danish territory and NATO member. Trump's initial tariffs proposal was scrapped following a framework on Arctic security with NATO, yet he maintained his ambition to control Greenland, vowing not to use force but critiquing NATO's role.

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to address France's nuclear posture soon, highlighting France and the UK’s position as NATO’s non-US nuclear powers. France holds 290 nuclear warheads, while the UK maintains about 225. By contrast, the US controls 3,700, historically extending deterrence to allies based on trust—a trust now in question.

Emma Belcher, an arms control expert, emphasized, "Extended deterrence hinges on belief in US commitments." As that confidence wanes, Europe moves toward independent nuclear discussions.

European leaders have floated various strategies: enhancing France’s arsenal, reallocating bombers, and reinforcing NATO’s eastern borders. While some view these as negotiation tactics, others see genuine desperation for a strategic shift. Finland’s Foreign Minister insisted NATO can independently tackle nuclear challenges but remains open to solutions.

France's Macron is expected to clarify his nuclear strategy stance, potentially influencing Europe’s future. Meanwhile, Trump controversially invited Putin to join his proposed Board of Peace—a NATO alternative that costs $1 billion to join, intensifying tensions with nations like Denmark over Greenland.

Putin responded favorably, eyeing collaboration with strategic partners and affirming ties with Palestinians. Trump's initiative showcases his goal for universal participation from influential leaders, challenging established alliances and questioning NATO's cohesion as Trump seeks to reshape global dynamics.

Key Takeaways

  • European leaders reassess nuclear strategies amid waning US trust.

  • France and the UK poised as central nuclear players in Europe.

  • Trump's controversial policies strain traditional NATO alliances.

On Jan 27, the Science and Security Board will reveal 2026 Doomsday clock. In 2025 the Doomsday Clock was at 89 seconds to midnight; closest the world ever been to a nuclear catastrophe. Nuclear proliferation is back on the world's menu. Thanks Donny for helping end humanity.

All broader repercussions of the fall of the iron curtain. That was an epochal shift in global balances of power. Coupled with the rise in hi-tech it has given power and clout to countries that used to have little to none. And is causing countries whose former dominance like the US was almost unchallenged to respond neurotically as they begin a period of relative decline and loss of empire, readjusting to a multi-polar world. Like the UK with its stupid Brexit and the EU, the US is alienating the entire decent and basically democratic world.

These tectonic shifts will reverberate for another 50 to a hundred years. If we're lucky there won't be a global possibly nuclear conflict.

Sadly the US could have been a good influence for this new era. Instead it has degraded itself beyond belief. Just look at the pals it now lined up with in Davos. That was a clear statement of what you are becoming. A rogue state. Visible on your own streets.

It is therefore natural that those nations who seek equitable, genuinely peaceful and law based solutions should rethink their strategies. And that includes the middle powers and S. America. Canada. The EU which is actually a great power just not militarily coordinated yet. And China which is entering its own after the depredations of Mao. China and Russia can no longer be played off against each other. Putin (an efficient, intelligent, cold-blooded Trump like figure) has maneuvered his country into fealty to China. Russia is actually a very weak country in all respects.

And the main difference between the US and China from a European point of view is that China doesn't want to wreck the EU. The US does.

We live in interesting times. But shame on you America. Shame on you with your new found 'friends'.

And, they played right into his hands. Now, it is time for the children to protect themselves and stop using "Daddy's money" to do it.....they will be back for more...

Maybe now, the world (at least the one's trying to escape from f'dup countries) will not want to come to the US. Let them flock to other countries for a while. "How is that working out UK?" We need to support ourselves and get our house in order before trying to get the countries houses in order for a change.

The European nations + Canada spend also a LOT for their defences, mostly used to buy US made weaponry. Time to change, and buy own = European stuff, as the US is not reliable anymore.

Just read an article, but it's not in English... that F35 that Danish Air Forces have is remotely accessible by US military, and has a "kill switch", so not only can US track position of each F35 but they can also remotely shut them off in case there ever was a conflict between the 2 nations. Apparently only UK and Israel have limited access to source code to manage their fleets in "limited autonomy". Wild times. Trying to find English article on the same in Google...

This was the first hit and quickly scanning through it, seems to cover same topic of the systems, etc.
