A 26-year-old man died after falling approximately five metres from a roof while carrying out demolition work at a premises in Chonburi on Monday morning, leaving his family and co-workers in shock. The incident occurred on what was reported to be his first day working at the site and his death had an immediate and devastating impact on his mother, who rushed to the scene after being informed of the incident.

Police from Mueang Chonburi Police Station received an emergency call at around 11.30am on 9 February 2026, reporting that a man had fallen from a height and died at a property within Chonburi Municipality. Officers attended the scene alongside rescue workers from the Rassameemanee Rescue Foundation to carry out an investigation.

The location was described as a large structure with a curved roof standing about five metres high. The body of the deceased, identified as Mr Apichat, aged 26, was found lying in a pool of blood beneath the structure, with severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a co-worker, Mr Chane, aged 54, the victim had been working in the same line of work for around four years and had only come to the site to begin a new job that day. While dismantling the roof, he reportedly stepped incorrectly, missing the steel framework and placing his weight on the roof material instead. The roof gave way, causing him to fall from the height and sustain fatal injuries.

The victim’s mother arrived at the scene shortly after being informed that her son had been injured. She said she initially did not believe the fall would be fatal until she saw her son’s body lying motionless. Overcome with grief, she told police that her son was hardworking and regularly supported the family financially.

She added that her son usually stayed with his employers at work sites and rarely returned home, as he was focused on earning money to help the household. The sudden loss left her distraught and struggling to come to terms with what had happened.

Khoasod reported that police stated that they will continue questioning co-workers and witnesses to establish the exact circumstances of the incident. Further inquiries will be conducted to determine whether any legal action is required in connection with workplace safety or negligence.

How very sad...... such lack of safety in construction here.

As nearly always, almost entirely avoidable. And even if he did mis-step, a safety line would have saved him. Totally crazy waste of a young life, and devastation for those relying on his income.

I've seen so many construction sites with minimal safety precautions, any kind of safety harness would have saved him, and I wonder if he was even wearing a construction helmet? More than likely he hit his head in just the right spot, in which case 5 m is plenty and it's game over. Just falling down on the sidewalk is enough to kill you if you hit your head in just the right spot.
