Best place to Exchange Sterling for Baht in Samui ?

Featured Replies

One of my lads is inbound to Samui shortly but is ticketed through onwards from Bangkok so wont have the opportunity to get down to the basement to exchange funds prior to connecting flight as will remain airside

Any suggestions for exchange places upon arrival ?? Obviously he could obtain some from the UK albeit noticed by chance that the Post Office was 37.xx this morning am sure other providers may be slightly better here in the UK

Thanks

Must have spotted a scam site or have priced a trivial amount considering they're over 40 later the same day.

Comparison site also showing this rate for the PO and a top rate of 41.012 from TravelFX. XE showing 41.936.

Booking online rate differs from walk-in rate.

Does he not have plastic? Can use fee free CC over the counter to get cash.

Even via ATM would be better than the PO if taking out the max, the total cost would around 1% to 2% off spot rate.

Keeping it simple, 220 baht fee from a 22,000 baht withdrawal equals 1%. Mastercard/Visa can be 0.5% to 1% off spot rate.

Current rate of 41.85 minus 1.5% equals 41.22.

Current rate of 41.85 minus 2% equals 41.01.

Yes I said last night to him proabably better to use his Chase Mastercard in ATM which carries no loading at all (bar local ATM fee) and is flat MC rate. He's clever (and half Thai) so will know to avoid the conversion option. As you say easiest way it would appear. Am surmising there is an ATM at Samui airport (never been personally)

ATM at the airport. Max might be 20k, so you are looking at a rate of around 41 after fees, using Mastercard. 41.18 at current rates.

OK, rip off location then.

Ordering in advance via the PO website and picking up on your once a week visit would just now give you 40.1564 with XE showing 41.9029
