So why do most expats and some Thais hate Indians? (especially Pattaya) I have been to Pattaya many times, never met an unfriendly Indian or 5 straws in a glass. I have been married to a Thai for about 22 years. She loves Indian food, and I love my Vindaloo. We are in the West now, and we freaked just Indian or Chinese. No Thai, why is that?

The lower-caste Indians often lack proper manners and tend to be unkempt. The upper castes are the opposite but can be arrogant.

I went to an Indian wedding, where there were about 300 people I had the best time in a long time.

Has anyone does any study on this perhaps and could provide more in depth discussion

If I had my life over I probably would of gone to uni to get a PhD

The problem with the Indians from the off was their very poor walking etiquette, 3-4 of them would walk on the pavement arm in arm and wouldn't move out the way, then they'd take it further walk in the road blocking vehicles. Recently they've improved, so the message is getting through

Most of the time they are very arrogant and think no end of themselves. Terrible to work with and not very nice to eat with too! Very selfish, and hates to share - e.g. taxi fare etc.

They do that because when they walk down beach road to see the ladyboys they can g tell them that they are brothers and can qualify for a family deal.

Dogs will eat anything as you mentioned food, but why do they hate cats. Its the same thing.

I don’t have much contact with Indians, but once I had in bkk pop while I was with 4 girls. The guy (he was with a Thai couple, but no gf) was staring at me and later he approached me at the table and insisted to talk to me He wanted to know my nationality and if I had knowledge of Thai culture 🤨🙄. He looked furious, I was just wondering what his problem was. Anyhow I could see that he was a very jealous man. Perhaps explained Indian men way. I found Indian men different than Indian women in some ways.

This post already seems to be descending into some pretty major generalizations. India is in an enormous subcontinent possessing people from all walks of life and all levels of economic strata. Some of their social etiquette can be explained by the fact that India is enormously crowded and like China when you're constantly jostling with a lot of people, you tend not to pay a lot of regard to things like ques, lines, walking etiquette on sidewalks, and things of that nature.

I've lived and worked in India and know a lot of Indian folks and many that I know are cultured, polite, respectful and quite sophisticated. I don't know too much about the level of your typical Indian that visits Thailand. Many are likely of a lower economic strata, as that's the majority of what Thailand is attracting these days. They can be very tough negotiators like a lot of Arabs and Israelis. And sometimes that feels as if they're being cheap and not appreciating the local culture, to put it politely.

India itself is amazing, with incredibly rich history, culture, arts, handicrafts, food, music cinema, poetry, geography, literature, theatre, and amazing people.

Of all their endearing behaviors, this one puzzles me the most. If walking 5 abreast in the road is their default modus operandi, imagine an entire country where everyone does this. One must conclude that India has no cars. But ChatGPT reassures me that, indeed, India has cars. So its a paradox.

Wrong. That’s Tikka Masala. Vindaloo evolved from Portuguese explorers and introduced to Goa in India.

Personally I don’t hate Indians, but prefer many other nationalities.

Some observations on Indians:

Our regular Massage shop girls told us they don’t like massaging them as primarily many of them smell and also often want a discount. I have noticed a body odour problem on several occasions while riding a baht bus.

They also seem overrepresented when it comes to riding baht buses with unsuitably large amounts of luggage.

I have seen one riding on the back of a taxi motorbike with a suitcase in his right hand and other bags on his left hand.

Another friend who runs a bar said he threw four out of his bar when they asked for one drink and four glasses.

I have travelled in India as a backpacker somewhere around between 1995 - 2005 a few times.

It's just a total different culture. I had excellent and not so nice moments there.

It's the same thing with Chinese, Israelis, Brits, Americans, Swedes, Germans etc.pp.

You grow up in a culture (and personal surrounding wich can be very different to others in your country) and take that with you when going abroad.

You can't expect that people from poor countries read travel advisors how to act in other countries.

Everybody lives in his own universe.

It’s racism combined with a white supremacy mindset.

You should hang out at Jomtien Complex or Boys Town, you'd get more than a touch on the shoulder.

Nearly all the Indians in Pattaya seem to be young males, so I think it’s more a case of prejudice against young males rather than prejudice against people from India.

More like "Why do MOST Thais and everyone else" ............

People are people. While some nations have larger populations that create a higher frequency of certain patterns, relying on these patterns creates bias. In my view, this is purely prejudicial. India has its boors, as does every other nation. The groups many people form impressions about are merely observable subsets of 1.4 billion people or roughly 20 times the population of Thailand.

We hear the tropes: that all Russians are drunks, Americans are loud mouthed boors, Indians are unhygienic, Israelis are entitled, or the Chinese are rude. In reality, it is just people everywhere. We must show tolerance and compassion, or we risk becoming the very thing we criticize in others.

Having lived in eight countries and traveled to nearly 100 for work and pleasure, I have found good people everywhere. I have seen Indians across Silicon Valley who are wonderfully generous, and my colleagues in Chennai were remarkably hospitable. In my experience, Indian four- and five-star hotels set the global standard for service. I met Uyghurs in Xinjiang who were incredibly friendly; rather than the violence often stereotyped in the media, I learned that they view the traveler or pilgrim as an honored guest to be treated with charity. Once, at an apricot orchard, we were told to take what we needed for free. The philosophy was simple: take what you need, but no more. Contrast that with the strict property boundaries one might find on a farm in Thailand or the West.

My point is to resist defining an entire nation by the actions of a few tourists acting foolishly. In many Asian cultures, there is a tendency to sacrifice for the collective, whereas in capitalist countries like the U.S., the focus is on the individual. Regardless of nationality, race, or creed, every person deserves the opportunity to be respected as an individual. If they break that social trust, then act accordingly. This brings to mind the words of Swami Vivekananda; while his context was religious, his message was about the core of humanity:

"As the different streams having their sources in different places all mingle their water in the sea, so, O Lord, the different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee."

And regarding the growth of the individual:

"Seed is sown in the ground, and earth and air and water are placed around it. Does the seed become the earth, or the air, or the water? No. It becomes a plant... so it is with religion."

We need more threads like this, as points out who the bigots are.

Well done 👍

But but but you cant have a council house.
