No Proper Supermarket in Jomtien

Sorry, but what?

Is it an imposition to travel the few kms into Central Pattaya in order to visit the cinema? You know most people stream these days, don't you? Are you invalid?

Similarly a mall. They are minutes away.

You haven't noticed the McDonalds in Jomtien?

You just have your own particular wonts, based on living the the USA I guess. 😊

If get away from Jomtien I bet most of the people going to McDonald's, Starbucks or other western places in Pattaya are not from the USA.

I have always wondered this ! That supermarket up near the bus station is double the prices of Aldi in Australia

As I’ve posted previously on this forum, I feel I must defend the little Foodmart at the Jomtien bus station. For such a small place, it has a remarkably wide range of foods, including imported stuff

Are you sure there ever was a foodland? I know there was a large sign, but I don't think there was a shop

Certainly not you at least. McDonalds has been there for nine months and you have yet to visit.

I wonder what the hell people do there.

They live there ? hang out on the beach maybe

Starbucks, McDonald's, Sizzler 🤢

golf driving ranges totally irrelevant but I think there is still one on Thaprasit road

along with Bungy jump and go carts maybe some off road 4 wheel buggy's too ?

For such a small place, it has a remarkably wide range of foods, including imported stuff for farangs. I don’t think it’s any more expensive than the big supermarkets in Pattaya. The service is great, with very little waiting, even in high season, so much better than the service I get at Australian supermarkets. I’m looking forward to shopping there 2 weeks from now, as long as there’s enough jet fuel remaining to get me back to Thailand.

Totally agree. I think FoodMart is excellent (particularly the bakery section). Myself and Mrs spend 10 days or 2 weeks in Jomtien for a little getaway twice or three times per year. We stay in an apartment with a full kitchen. Between FoodMart, Tops and Rhompo market we can get pretty much everything we need before heading back to the apartment. A fairly large Lotus's Fresh has also just opened between the aforementioned shops and the apartment we stay in which is an added bonus.

Plus you have the excellent Thepprasit Market nearby.

Long ago I predicted there would be Starbucks here before a McDonalds. So I was wrong.

There are plenty of cafes in Jomtien and the very excellent French bakery / cafe / resto O-Delices in Jomtien complex.

really where?

I don't think there has ever been one in my distant memory......but would be happy to be proven wrong.......

The nearest would be Greenways on Suk roughly opposite Makro.

Foodmart is good to have. I would be sad if that was the ONLY place I had to shop but as I detailed before, there are very ample options.

Muck FcDonalds!

Now on offer authentic Brittany crepes!

...apart from Burger King, McDonald's and KFC - and several of others. Where do you think a new mall or department store could be located in Jomtien?

Behind Copacabana on 2nd or a bit further down where the German Bakery is. Good food by the way. Shame the staff are miserable.

How long it takes to reach a big supermarket from Jomtien?

What day of week, what time of day, what type of vehicle?

BigC Extra or Foodland on a Saturday afternoon by car? Have fun.

TOPS at Central? Stay home!

Stressful even on a motorbike.

As an early bird you win.

Even Makro is better morning, get your chicken before the thais have fingered it all

I dont know why anyone buys a condo there.

A good large supermarket that you can get to in 15 minutes is a basic necessity.

Makro, lotus, Big C and the other big food store similar to Makro...all only 5-10 minutes away

What is this garbage post, Jomtien even has a extensive Western/European grocery store near the roundabout to Pratumnak.

Big C In pattaya you mean?

Not 5-10 minutes in traffic .... you need to time it well

And if you dont drive you're stuck on those baht buses. that's hell with groceries

Yeah.

So don't.

Free same day delivery for 300 baht order.

Sorted.

Sure you can head up to Sukhumvit Road but with the massive amount of year round expats why is Jomtien devoid of a proper supermarket like a Foodland or Big C ?

Land price?

But I live five minutes walk from BigC extra in pattaya, so good question.

Wasn't there food land on the theprassit, sign is still there.

The expats in Jomtien are so rich so they only eat restaurant, not as working class people like me, have to work and shop cheap.

Sorry---Foodland never opened

In reality, I can't remember the last time a Foodand opened anywhere. Even in central Bangkok, with all the development of the last 15 years, opportunities are being missed. Large office and condo complexes have been springing up along Phahon Yothin road between Victory Monument and Ratchayothin. Most have large empty ground-level commercial space. There is a mid-size Big C at Saphan Kwai - but that's it. Nearest Foodland in that area would be (ironically) next to another Big C on Ratchadapisek (Soapy Row). Making matters worse is that Big C seems to be downscaling foreign food offerings, and Lotus's is pretty basic since Tesco left. That leaves the field to Villa.

Anyway, best store is on the dark side, Tops.

For meat ...Smokey Mountain

India food ..ohh Bob ..close to tops.

Cake.....

Lankanom Common Cake (Khao Talo)

ล้านขนม คอมมอนเค้ก (เขาตาโล)

Fish... naklua fish market.

Never been there?

Its amazing in old Chin town....

You have only seen tourist stuff until market in Naklua

No malls, fast food outlets, or department stores either. Jomtien is kind of a wasteland. Even Rompho market doesn't have much of a food court.

There have been rumors for a couple years now that there are some big players looking for a location for a mall somewhere in Jomtien. Still just rumors.

Search "the dark side" ,soi Khaotalo

Jomtien is a retirement home

Why? The dark side is not Jomtien. Also, the search function on this site is garbage.

KhaoTalo reccomded, no tourists only expats, all the lady bars are there, but no tourists

How do you like Nirun Condo; I'm told it's plush.

Ok thanks.

If there is online delivery, then it's not a major issue.

Except I do enjoy shopping in person.

But no matter where you live, there are annoyances.

Give up with this f-rang nonsense. If you need to use the word, then it is farang.

How dare you !! How dare you !!

Spelling and pronunciation went out years ago and children at school are encouraged to spell on how they feel not what is the antiquarian way of spelling ,as long as one understands there is no need to bow down and brown tongue the government authorities and spell the way that way that these others say oh you should spell that way ... because it's always been spelt that way !

Well not this little black duck !!!!

Please I know your nearly 80 but try to get with the times ,surely that's not too much to ask !

Comments from the peanut gallery again.

Why do you discriminate against white or multicoloured ducks?

Get back to mopping, surely that's not too much to ask.

Thank you for your non-service.
