No Proper Supermarket in Jomtien

How long it takes to reach a big supermarket from Jomtien?

What day of week, what time of day, what type of vehicle?

BigC Extra or Foodland on a Saturday afternoon by car? Have fun.

TOPS at Central? Stay home!

Stressful even on a motorbike.

As an early bird you win.

I have always wondered this ! That supermarket up near the bus station is double the prices of Aldi in Australia

As I’ve posted previously on this forum, I feel I must defend the little Foodmart at the Jomtien bus station. For such a small place, it has a remarkably wide range of foods, including imported stuff

Are you sure there ever was a foodland? I know there was a large sign, but I don't think there was a shop

Why do you need a supermarket?

You are in Thailand so why not shop at the local markets for local produce?

A good large supermarket that you can get to in 15 minutes is a basic necessity.

Why?

There is some stress at the Thai style markets over paying the f-rang tax. Often, better deal at supermarkets.

Up to you.

Especially with Rompho even if you can get the local price it isn't always a better deal.

Free deliver for online shopping is a great benefit not to be sneezed at.

I see there is hostility to the fact that as f-rangs we don't always get the local price at local markets. That's for unmarked items. If the price is posted, it will be fine. Y'all are free to test this yourself.

Not moving to Jomtien because of the grocery situation is dumb.

from what I read on this forum, many dumb people live in the jomtien/pattaya region.

We're all Mensas compared to the riff raff in Phuket.

An example I've found is oranges which I often buy.

There are usually price promotions for them on Tops Online Central and almost always a better deal than Rompho market even though the kilo price on fruit is posted.

The Thepprasit market would be cheaper though not convenient to me.

As with many things, it depends.

Which products, what's convenient for you, etc. etc.

As in much in the world, smart shoppers don't shop in only one place.

I call BS!

Don't slander the locals. Thepprasit Market is always cheaper than any supermarket. Have not once been ripped off nor has there been even an attempt to do so.

Better that you don't slander with your generalisations then...

Calm down. I was talking about Rompho.

If you've never been quoted a f-rang price at a produce market in Thailand, I have a bridge to sell you.

Then you should have mentioned Rompho in the first place. Normal people ask the price and walk away if it doesn't suit.

No, I haven't paid a ''farang price' and I'm not interested in your bridge.

32 minutes ago, scottiejohn said:

Why?

I don't eat like a local.

Good luck being one of those farangs who is more local than the locals.

Anyway, ignoring any weirdly high strung reactions. once you get settled in Jomtien there is a good chance you'll be able to figure out a suitable grocery solution tailored to your needs, budget, whether you have a vehicle or not. how much you value convenience over very best prices. etc.

That said, OF COURSE I'd love to see a Foodland close to me. But no location is perfect.

Gaslighter.

You wrote 'Thai style markets', which turned out to be ONE market.

You wrote "Often, better deal at supermarkets." which turned out to be one instance with oranges at the aforementioned market.

Don't slander the locals with your ridiculous hyperbole.

The one on Jomtien 2nd rd is quite nice, opened last year.

I was there once, It has covered parking for motorbike and cars.

(Facebook "We Love Jomtien").

Between Hanuman and Rompho (opposite).

This is where the old Jomtien gym used to be , it's only a smallish tops and again expensive

Troll

It is kind of a joke wasteland for support services. I rode around the area today cannot believe all the construction 1,000s of rooms being built.

No mall

Movie theater

Decent western markets

Starbucks, McDonald's, Sizzler. I know some people hate them but these places in Pattaya have loads of business.

No golf driving ranges.

I wonder what the hell people do there.

Oh, they hope on the hot, crowded 10b bus and take the 30 minute ride to Central. The same back of course.

Sorry, but what?

Is it an imposition to travel the few kms into Central Pattaya in order to visit the cinema? You know most people stream these days, don't you? Are you invalid?

Similarly a mall. They are minutes away.

You haven't noticed the McDonalds in Jomtien?

You just have your own particular wonts, based on living the the USA I guess. 😊

Actually, I just did an online search and there does appear to be an expat market called The Pantry
