Two Foreign Tourists Found Dead in Khao San Road Hotel

Featured Replies

Two foreign male tourists were found dead in a hotel room on Khao San Road in Bangkok on 7 April 2026, with police investigating the unexplained deaths after white powder was discovered scattered across the floor. Emergency responders attempted CPR but were unable to revive either man, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police from Chana Songkhram station were alerted at around 13:00 and attended the hotel in Talat Yot subdistrict, Phra Nakhon district, alongside forensic officers and medical staff from Vachira Hospital. The deceased were identified as a 30-year-old South African man, the registered occupant of the room and a 38-year-old man from Latvia, who was registered as staying in a nearby room.

Both men were found lying on the floor near the bed, with no signs of a struggle in the room. Authorities reported the South African man, Mr. Andrew Kurger, was lying on his left side wearing a black T-shirt, black trousers and a black cap, while the Latvian man, Mr. Esverd Straja, was lying on his back wearing a black T-shirt and grey shorts.

A hotel staff member said the two men appeared to be friends and had checked in on 2 April 2026. When staff entered the room to clean it, they found both men unconscious and immediately contacted authorities.

Police reported that white powder was found scattered on the floor of the room and has been collected as evidence for further examination. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of death and are awaiting forensic analysis and autopsy results.

Authorities have stated that there were no visible signs of violence or forced entry, and initial findings suggest no immediate evidence of foul play. However, officials are continuing a full investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Khaosod reported that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the results are expected to clarify whether substances found at the scene played a role. Police are also reviewing hotel records, CCTV and any available evidence to build a clearer timeline of events.

Sounds like the perfect mix of a drug related incident.

Bangkok's turn for tourists behaving badly while on vacation. Tomorrow likely Pattaya or Phuket's turn--or both.

The world is now a river of fentanyl, with an accompanying epidemic of overdoses. Massive tragedy. How deadly is it? Tom Petty, who had a legal prescription because of a fractured femur, accidentally overdosed and died. Hopefully the Kao San dealer can be found and charged with murder.

That's why a lot of tourists come to Thailand the easy availability of drugs available on the market

Its an awesome drug, spent a few weeks on an IV !

Maybe I'm just remembering incorrectly (or the news has simply reported these events more frequently), but it seems that there have been an increase in the number of people dieing from apparent overdose. I'd even say that suspected tainted drugs maybe part of the issue given this untick in deaths.

Why is self-inflicted damage "so sad"?

Sad but when Thailand seems to attract mainly the teenage junkies from all over, such tragic issues will occur and damage the country's reputation.

Would you say that if it was your kids or any other close acquaintance ?

If I were planning on murdering someone I think "sprinkling white powder around the room" might come to mind.

Absolutely I would, but then none of my children would put themselves in that ridiculously stupid position. As far as acquaintances are concerned, I do know of four to whom these circumstances applied and I considered them all complete idiots with the outcome of their stupidity not being in the least bit sad.

It's their own fault if they take drugs.

You reap what you sow.

Good for society. Less bad people in it. If only more bad people overdosed.

It is the shizzle though but something so readily available "on the street" I have found it very difficult to find.

Everything is easily sourced but yeah, not Fenty.

It sounds to me as though he's promoting the legitimate medical use of fentanyl, how is that promoting "drug use"?

In this case, Ages 30 and 38 years old.

A good guest would be. They went out drinking and partying. they attempted to buy some cocaine the person that sold it to them lied andsold them fentanyl (Imagine that somebody lying Or cheating you in Thailand @) two or three lines each of that realize -they're dead. And by the time they realized it was too late

And I've known hundreds of very intelligent people who have tried drugs because "everybody's doing it", and either quit or are still doing them. It's an addiction that has little to do with how intelligent a person is, but who their friends are and how much of an addictive personality they have.

The same goes for anything addictive. Sugar itself leads to obesity because of it's addictive qualities, and thousands die yearly from it's overuse. Cigarettes and alcohol are others. legal and killing millions yearly, and they aren't all stupid people.

As far as your children not getting hooked, that's great but I'm sure they've tried them without you being aware, as most do. It's a major problem of course that has no end, with many rich people, including officials, feeding off the gains made from it, including forced prostitution and trafficking.

Not seeing this as sad, two men who might have been very good people in general, dying from an overdose, possibly given tainted cocaine, or fentanyl without realizing it, seeing it was a white powder, shows a lack of compassion for life itself.

What on earth makes you so arrogantly sure about that? How well do you know my children, or me for that matter?

You cannot use your experience of your own children to determine how my (or anyone else's) children might behave.
