Thai people will hardly ever fight you one on one no matter your color. They need to be charge with murder.

If they see a fight developing Thai's will go in even though in even if they don't know what its about but it needs to be in a group incase one of them is battered. Was only a matter of time someone was beaten to death.

99.9% of the violence here is one Thai on another. Very little violence here that's perpetrated against foreigners, it's fairly uncommon.

I feel infinitely safer walking the the streets of Hua Hin or Bangkok then I do most large cities in America. 50 x safer.

Prosecutre them for murder, to start with. It's ridiculous how lenient punishment is when it comes to violence and the perps are not foreign.

Songkran had nothing to do with this. Boys fighting in gangs do. Foreigners can't comprehend helping out your mates and think everyone has a warrior spirit.

Thai boys learn kickboxing at school. They do military service and learn to kill. There is no point in thinking they have their honor to worry about. But they are taught to kill in packs from an early age.

'Netizen outrage' is a term coined by the online media to 'inflate' the importance of a story.

i.e. Nok gives Somyot kick in the nuts - Somyot is a Doctor - no one care's but the story needs momentum - "netizens outraged by Brutal assault on Thai Doctor".... more often than not people are 'outraged' at the idea someone is 'outraged' by half of this silly stuff...

Off topic, but I go for a 90 minutes walk every morning. There is one unavoidable hot spot as far as dogs are concerned. I've been living up north for about 20 years and haven't even had a bad stare directed at me, let alone any murder attempts. Based on your observations, I feel I've been cheated and missing out on things. Who should I complain to about this?

It seems that your exposure to Thai news and the opinions of Thai people is solely through the lens of this forum. I admit it's a bit of a bugger not understanding the language here, but if one doesn't even make the effort, I can appreciate why some never graduate from the "they don't like us" school of thought.

I live in the country here, so feel safe anyway, but if in large cities, I feel much safer back home. Never had any trouble living around NYC and San Antonio, in and around those cities for work and leisure for 62 years, but here they'll kill you for the slightest thing from that weak ego, intentional homicide as much here as anywhere. Personally I've never had any trouble anywhere, as I respect all others and walk with confidence, where the opposite of that has you looking like a victim anywhere. Most of the violence here is local against local.
