The endless financial requests by the Thai Family.

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Thanks to my Thai wife, I am well informed about the "well being" of other Thai wifes in my home town in Europe.

Overwhelmingly, those Farang/Thai marriages seem to be suffering from "financial stress".

My private survey showed: Next to gambling, lavish spending, the number 1 problem seems to be the endless financial requests by the Thai family. Definitely the number 1 problem.

It seems that Thai wifes can not resist the never ending financial demands from Thailand. (I know "losing face" has a lot to do with it).

Why is it so hard for Thai wifes living abroad to explain to the Thai family, that most people must work hard for their money in Europe and money does not grow on trees?

My observation is: The only way to stop this "financial drainage" effectively is when the Farang-hubby threatens with divorce as a last resort.

The drawback is: Hubby has lost "standing" in the eyes of Thai-wifey. While still "attractive", wifey may start to look for a new Farang ATM.

These are people who married bar girls or people much younger than them, right? If so there's your answer. If not then it sounds like nonsense. All my friends who married girls of an appropriate age

Get off your high horse. He's telling it the way he sees it - and the way a whole helluva lot of other people see it.

Thai families also don't realise that, in Europe, earning is taxed typically 30%-50% (including national insurance). Also, cost of living such as rent, food, utlities and travel are far greater than Thailand.

Who cares what standing he has lost. These people along with the wives are dead weight. Cut them all loose and be done with the vultures.

Tell her to get a job and send home her own money.

Time is money. If a much younger thai gal is "selling you" the best earning years of her life you will pay dearly.

Because the Thai wives who are abroad, even though they better understand how hard living is there also, still have family back home making demands, and that family will always come first to many. Some understand the greediness of others back home in Thailand, and are happy with their better lives abroad, so those won't be the ones harping on the husband, as they know he can say get lost and she'll be back in Thailand as a local again.

If you're a gambler, leaving the country won't stop that, and that's a problem anywhere unless the husband throws money away like paper himself.

Coming from a poor family, of course the new Thai wife will want more things to show off to others, and this is the major problem here, as they can more readily see what the Thai wife has and want it for themselves, hence the "find yourself a foreigner husband." It's not just about bar girls but all those who come from a poor background, the majority here.

Hard to tell if a potential wife is greedy unless you're around her long enough to see the signs. Finding one here then moving back to the west without a trial period might have you end up with that gold digger. It's your money, and the only thing you have to provide for are the wife and any children. Anything outside that is totally up to you.

Fairly easy to tell if a women is greedy. Just look at how much she spends on clothes and food.

Actually if a woman comes from a poor background she won't have that money to spend on things, but many quickly become greedy if they went without all their lives, and especially so if they are jealous of others who do have more, including friends who have foreign husbands .Also, being a woman, she will spend whatever she does have on clothes first, just to be a woman who wants to look good.

A 300 baht shirt is often no better than a 50 baht shirt. If you give a woman 3000 baht and she spends it in 48 hours she is a fool. If it lasts at least 5 days she is sensible. You can tell a good one from a bad one with this simple test.

You give any poor person cash and it'll burn a hole in their pockets fast. The only gauge is time. All women love to buy. What they buy and how much spent over time, especially if they have what they need, is a better way to tell. Also those "my buffalo needs medicine", just after meeting you, could also be an indication. But again, if they've been poor all their lives, all need a rescuer, especially knowing gossip is a national sport here, with everyone knowing the "value" of a foreigner. It takes time to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Give a poor woman 3000 baht. After a few days you know if she is smart. I don't feel sorry for guys marrying spendaholics. The signs were always there. They just never looked.

Probably better than losing standing to the parents of a Serbian refugee!

Being so far away from family should be easy to fake a financial calamity. Photograph you and the wife wearing the most thread bare clothes you can find at the local thrift shop, driving a rust bucket you took on a test spin at a used car dealership, and maybe sitting on the porch of a burnt out house. Maybe dummy up a fake go fund me page if additional authenticity is needed.

Good advice; which is exactly what I good friend of mine in Australia did in the mid 1980s.

My friend had spent 6 months in Thailand in the early 1980s; he married one of his Thai students who was a few years older than him. She came with 2 children from her previous marriage to a farang. After settling in Australia, another child came along.

Mid 1980s, my friend is the only one in the family earning an income (he had a full-time and a part-time (18 hours a week for memory) job at the time), 3 children and a wife and her family to support. They were living in a government housing estate in Canberra, struggling to make ends meet. The "demands" to help her family in Thailand never ceased. His wife finally got a part-time job, but all her money went on gambling or sent back to Thailand - not a cent went to helping her children or family in Australia.

Farangs who allow themselves to be milked are known as 'Cash Cows"

They are to be found all over Thailand, but in the rural areas of the Northeast they can be seen in herds.

Lost me at the first sentence,

"Thanks to my Thai wife, I am well informed about the "well being" of other Thai wifes in my home town in Europe."

How many of these women live in your European hometown?

Married for 20 years, wife has a very extensive, very poor rural family, 13 maternal aunts and uncles............the wife has never asked for a single satang, nor has anyone in her family..........but to be fair, they know I'm from Yorkshire.

About as bad as losing status to a semi-literate farang. 🙄
