Any recent visitors talk up either of them? Im leaning towards both or should I skip Phetch? I know Kanch is pretty good.

Love Kanchanaburi and if you have a decent motorbike, there is some really good day trips in the area and also overnight. But Kanchanaburi is horrible throughout the burning season, so if you are sensitive to smoke, do not even think about it. It gest horrible between the hills and mountains there.

Ever stayed at Nam Tok? I went there once but don't remember seeing much. End of train line. Erawan I know. Its far away. War stuff I know.

I wonder what other cool day trips they have. I can dump Phetch and do Nam Tok or somewhere else if good. But I want to stay on the train line.

Prefer to ride a bike for 5 to 30kms. Don't want longer trips. Don't want a car. So want local things to do within 30kms on a train station.

The motorbike museum looks cool.

Never been to America and does not live in Thailand. Hoping he will start giving Kanchanaburi facts soon. Love the place as its my wife's home province. The have a farm in amphur Tamaka, the family home in amphur Muang, and land for sugar cane up in Bal Ploi. We are up there a lot. Not too much in hot season as its smoky and very hot indeed.

Went up to the Mon Bridge, so have been through that area a few times, so a motorbike will make your life there easy and more interesting.

159km from Nam Tok. Car needed. I suppose that is an option. Google says 3 hrs 20 min from Kanch. I don't think I could be bothered to see a bridge.

It is not always the destination itself, its the journey ;-)

You are not easy to please

A few months ago, I spent a couple of days in Phetchaburi while on a leisurely drive from Jomtien to Hua Hin. I found it to be a very interesting province. This was early March and while the Pattaya area was suffering from heavy pollution, Phetchaburi was pretty clear and pollution free.

There were a lot of scenic surprises. Phetchaburi has a huge salt production industry and the many large evaporation ponds have a surprising array of hues as the salt goes through various stages. There are a few coastal roads with many small fishing villages along their lengths and some very nice beaches and small restaurants. It was an enjoyable area to just randomly explore. I found a very nice room at a resort for under B1000. There are several notable temples important to Thais but as they require ascending long staircases, my knees and I made a joint decision to pass them by. There are also several large National Parks with hiking trails. I enjoyed my short stay and could see easily staying longer and not being bored. The combination of an interesting coastline and sharp mountains in close proximity makes for interesting rides.

Which is fine but I have seen mountains, lakes and bridges before. The hotels look expensive. No gym. Kanch and Phetch have gyms and half price rooms. They all have markets.

The sun must be well over the yard-arm wherever he is based......but then again.....🙃🙃

Kanchanaburi wins for me.

Get up to Sangkhlaburi, lovely place for a few days, real border town area, really nice area on the huge lake. Nice drive.

Wheres the Coastline in Kanchanaburi?😉😉😉

I have been to both provinces over the past year and loved Sangkhlaburi for it's laid back vibe.

Looks nice. Downside hard to get to. Off the train line and isolated.

As someone who lives here, most of this is right on the money. I have 35,000km on my scooter doing day or single night trips. I just road to Erawan NP took the ferry across and came back down in a single day. Saw two groups of wild elephants
Smokey season is a crap shoot, last year was brutal for 3 months. This year, only one month was real bad, but because we are in a valley it does get super hot at times.

Yeah I went to Erawan before twice. Nice but 400 baht is annoying.

No need to pay that. Plenty to see and do outside the park

I am going to Kanchanaburi in June with a bunch of my girlfriend’s temple friends who go every year to give chicken rice and some time to poor Myanmar children.

I will report back

I will also ask if they have both a big and small 711 there.

Because as you know, some places have both kinds. How crazy is that?

When I told my girlfriend that you referred to the place as Kanch, She spat out some iced tea from laughing so hard.

Mine was born and raised there, she too started howling. Petch as well. Its like he wants people to know he has absolutely no knowledge of Thailand at all.

Bit of a stretch for a trolling post. He simply shortened it, typing, as nobody would call it Kanch or use Petch either.

We type BKK, but nobody uses that verbally when talking. Do y'all think I verbally speak PKK ???

Trolling is bad enough, at least post something that makes sense. And I'm sure you actually told your GF that and she spat tea.

Why would anyone bore there partner with the happenings on AN. I wouldn't want my wife thinking I'm a gossiping old lady with nothing better to do.

Thais say 7 not 7/11 and most have a 3 letter nickname. Most farangs can't even pronounce Kanchanaburi including most Youtubers.

The tea spit out story is fake. Lots of fakes on here.
