Wise transfers now taking 8 - 9 hours

Featured Replies

Normally my wise transfers go through within minutes, transferred £200 at 3am to my Thai bank account, wise app said it would be 8-9 hours, still waiting, anyone else experience this? Is this the new normal for wise?

Yes I use Wise for bringing my pension from the UK every month. Still a very good service IMO - months ago I recall the money arriving regularly in my Thai BKK Bank branch in seconds, almost unbelieva

Just did a transfer of ~32000฿ yesterday morning via the app, it was completed and deposited with a kbank notification before the wise app said it was being processed.

Just had a look and for the same transaction it estimates 2 hours. Maybe later today it will be back to instant.

Wise got licensed in Thailand. Starting July 1st, I believe, people with a Thai Wise account will not be able to use their Wise cards. There will also be other limitations. Wise may also be checking to see that people who do a lot of transfers to Thailand have a Thai Wise account and not the international Wise account if they reside in Thailand. Under the new license, Thai resident can not have an international account.

However, over the last months, I instruct at 8 am Thai time and it gets to my Bank say 2-4 pm Thai time. So that's 6-8 hours.

As I said, still a good service IMO and Wise give a good rate and are inexpensive. I hope that doesn't change !

People with a Thai Wise account cannot even get Wise cards yet, you've got that upside down. We will be able to get them as part of those changes.

Transfers from WISE arriving immediately DO NOT get noted as an International Transfer, FTT with Bangkok Bank, so no good for Immigration if needed. And will be automatically converted as a Local Transfer.

You must go to the recieving bank and get a Credit Advice. This can be done on a 12 month basis, but as we all know, Bkk Bank is not the quickest.

I have looked into both Nationwide and Barclays to send via SWIFT and Barclays wins hands down with a 0% charge if sent in GBP, and Bkk using their TT exchange rate plus about Bht 200 fee. Will try a small transfer before next month's transfer is due.

Thanks Wil. I'll bear that in mind. ATM not doing my Retirement Visa on that basis but evenso, good to know.

You are correct. For those of us who have the international Wise, we may be forced to change to the Thai Wise with its limitations. In my case, my legal residence changes from year to year (some years I am here over 180 days while others I am not). I can use my Wise card here in Thailand. I may be wrong, but what I understand is that those using the Thai Wise accounts will get bank cards to use in Thailand and a Wise card that can be used internationally, but not in Thailand. Money brought in with the International card is not automatically posted as a remittance.

For several months wise had next business day at 2:03PM for all transfers from my American checking account to Bangkok Bank. Then they briefly went to more than a week.

Now they’re down to seconds. I don’t need a foreign exchange certificate for any purpose so these are all labeled as “travel expenses.”

Dilemma in getting a confirmation of international transfer!

I use Wise on occasion. I was told by Wise if i needed a confirmation of international transfer to go to Bangkok Bank ( Wise initiated the transfer from my Bank in the states via Kasikorn via Bangkok Bank..

I went to Bangkok Bank with Wise transcript of details which include Amount in USA exchanged to baht. transferring through Kasikorn arriving in bangkok bank . The Bangkok Bank passbook says the amount with "NBD",I googled this term it means Cash Deposit No Book.

All that being said ,Bangkok Bank couldn't help me and referred me to Kasikorn Bank.

I went to a kasikorn branch the next day , they couldn't help me, they gave me three numbers to call, all relating to a (Kasikornbank international trade center) ,while suggesting I use these numbers in Udon Thaini, which is 160 km away from my city.

042-247038

042-247039

042247050. .

I text chat the Wise app . I conversed to a CR and they apologized for any inconvenience and said they had issues with other customers obtaining a confirmation. They also gave me the first number . The first number isn't a working number and the other two no one answers.

The following link includes location details for Kasikorn's international trade centres. Hope that at least one of them is closer to you than 160 km!

I finally got in contact with a Udon Thaini rep of the Kasikornbank international trade center.

I got another number to call through 042-247039, Its 042-224184.

My wife spoke to the Thai gentleman who wanted my info over the phone.

I declined and said I would go to the office in person with it.

It happens from time to time but usually this is just temporary.

Either I must be doing something different but since I've started actually monitoring it 37 out of last 38 transfers have landed instantly in fact the Thai app pings before I even get a chance to check.....7 days a week bank holidays makes no difference

The odd one took about 2 hours

Simple bank transfer done manually to Wise from RBS and onwards to SCB

Doesnt matter what you put on reason for transfer as I've deliberately chosen many including the new one reference retirement requirements.....its immediate every time

Even before I started monitoring it was always instant

Strange how so many have issues.....are you perhaps using funds held on Wise app or Debit cards ??

I did 2 transfers from my UK HSBC account to my Kasikorn bank account using Wise (one on Monday 18 May and another on Tuesday 19 May) and both arrived in seconds. Both appear as international transfers on my statement.

I have been led to believe, and proved it myself, that if you tick Long Stay in Thailand, or to buy Property, then it will take up to the next WORKING day for it to appear in Bangkok Bank account. There is now a further box to tick asking whether I wanted paper evidence of the transfer's journey, very simple in my case WISE-BKK, arriving as an International Transfer, FTT, good for Immigration.

I just hope the new regulations do not prevent this, or I shall have to transfer via SWIFT from Barclays as they charge Zero for the transfer, BKK take 200-500 Bht.

Next month I shall transfer 50% via WISE and 50% via SWIFT to see which is better.

Thats a relief . My transaction via my country to Wise to Bangkok Bank had to go through a Wise partner, Kasikornbank. It landed in Bangkok Bank as a NBD(Cash Deposit No Book ). I have no issues with the speed of the transaction ,it was quick, only the classification of the transaction .Im goin to Udon Tuesday to get a credit advise receipt(stating it was a international transfer).

I very seldom use Wise, that being said in the past the transactions always landed as a FTT , that was quite a while ago.

It might well be with Bangkok Bank but doesnt make the slightest difference with SCB

Yes, THB 35k WISE to SCB just took 1 minute to arrive. Cost was Bht 76.20

WISE to BKK BANK for Long Term Stay will arrive at 14.05 tomorrow. Cost was Bht 69.50

Did not read all the replies but yes.....Wise is kinda weird now! I mean sometimes it says seconds & does deliver in seconds .....other times it can say like 4+ day ! But yeah I just keep reloading & adjusting amounts till I get the Kasikorn quick transfer in seconds with no Foreign transfer receipt needed... as I don't need one

In Udon Thaini just in front of Big C there’s a small branch of Kasikornbank inside there is a separate office upstairs with 2 office employees.

I showed them my Passport a credit advice statement from Bangkok Bank & my Wise transfer receipt. In return I got a free Acknowledgment letter of the transaction via Wise London with their Office heading ,Kasikornbank Public International Trade & Processing Department.

Honestly I don’t understand why each branch doesn’t coordinate with this office in and around the provinces of Issan.

You're having a laugh. How's that even their problem? Consider yourself lucky that they provide you with the paperwork you need despite dodging the SWIFT fees that Thai banks charge for receiving funds from abroad the classic way.

Thanks for the reply! It was a scratching my head feeling , not having a laugh.

Besides the fact that the international trade center office is up a back stair third floor office through the Kasikornbank branch lunch room looking like a a make shift temporary appearance and when asked for a business card of the gentleman I was dealing with a cordial reply “ I have none” , leaves me with a little skepticism of the process. All the while knowing Thailand has had like all other banks suspicious employee interactions.

Mind you if it wasn’t located in a Kasikornbank branch , I think I would’ve for sure walked out before giving my passport , Wise transfer receipt and Bangkok Bank credit advise statement with my account number on it.

It’s not like Thailand is cherry to scams .

All in all I spent some time away from sakon .I got two rooms at a udon Thaini hotel.Took the wife & kids shopping at central and had a lush dinner at Ban Bua hotel restaurant ,on soi falang.

Cheers
