Travel for 2 weeks

Featured Replies

Now I travel again for 2 weeks to Thailand, tell me how much I need for 2 weeks of travel? I do not have to pay for any accommodation, but I guess I have to chip in for some food or travel expenses. Now, having a Thai wife means small gifts on arrival and some meals sometimes. I am a wine drinker, but wine is very expensive, so I drink Chang or Singha. I won't be living in a tourist area, so, Oh, I forgot, I am not keen on Thai food, so I will be cooking Farang food. Any ideas? By the way, the airfares are paid.

OP has continually said he visits Thailand twice a year with his wife. His wife is Thai also. And he, seriously doesn't know how much they will need for a 2 week holiday. Seriously? No accommodation

Or his wife can pay for everything with her $65/hour wage. Did you hear that!?!? SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS……per hour!!!!! His wife makes $65 dollars per hour. One hour. Sixty five Australian Dollars.

Well, there are days I spent less than thb 200 if that is helpful

Bring your Visa card and 10,000 baht in cash. You sound like you've never been to Thailand.

OP has continually said he visits Thailand twice a year with his wife.

His wife is Thai also.

And he, seriously doesn't know how much they will need for a 2 week holiday.

Seriously?

No accommodation costs and airfares paid for.

I mean, how hard is it?

So that IF Immigration at the airport asks you to show Bht 20,000 IN CASH, you will be <deleted>.

If you are referring to me, a true upstanding Englishman, then I suggest you check the Thai Immigration laws and requirements.

If not me, where is this other 'tite arsed Pom', I would love to meet him/her.

An 80 year old arriving with his Thai wife, doubt he would be stopped.

If he's got his CC, he can easily take the money out anyway.

No problems with that

This is what you, and many other do not realise. There are NO ATM machines before Immigration, so you cannot get the extra Bht 10000 you MAY need. It MUST be in cash. Proof of bank deposits, credit cards etc are NOT acceptable

I know, a stupid rule but TIT.

Does one need proof of financial stability when entering UK, USA or other countries?

No problem with being refused entry? It is up to the particular IO you go to who can decide.

You shouldn't make assumptions.

I do know about ATM's at the airport.

And unless I'm mistaken, I've walked past a heap of ATM's before I've gotten to Immigration.

In the extreme unlikelihood that he did get stopped, his wife could just go through and get the money.

Again, the chances of an older guy with a Thai wife getting asked for proof of funds would be little to no chance IMO.

If you come here twice a year, why do you need advice on how much money to bring?

No. Highly doubt this would work.

Never happens to "Normal" grown up tourists, only those who repeating border crossing, or suspicious out of other reasons.

Having come through 3 times in the last 6 months I too agree with Will. I saw no ATM's at all. Checked AI which I rarely do and came up with this.

AI Overview

No, there are no ATM machines before immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport. You must pass through immigration to access ATMs, which are located in the baggage claim area and the public arrivals hall. [1, 2, 3, 4]

You only need 100 baht a day as you will be doing nothing as usual.

Airport security is not going to let anyone enter through the exit to hand cash to someone held up pre immigration. Never seen an ATM before immigration at any airport anywhere on this planet, maybe one of us needs to pay better attention.
