Arabica Coffee, Dark, from Chaing Mai

Featured Replies

I've been experimenting with different coffee beans, and I tried this stuff. Too bitter for me. Maybe tomorrow I'll try grinding less coffee to make a full pot of 12 cups.

Any other suggestions?

My favourite is Arabica dark French roast, the french means it isn't bitter. For my 4 cup moka pot i use 11.5 grams, more or less coffee and more or less water changes the taste as does the grind, so

How does everyone you switched onto it get their hand carried from Canada? Impractical as general advice don't you think?

I buy my coffee from a farm up in Chiang Rai and have tried the dark roast but it was to bitter to my taste. If roasting is the issue not much to do but maybe milk makes it more drinkable.

You buying that online ?

I need some new coffee

Personally prefer full city aka medium dark roast. It’s a variable as far as individual preference. Keep tilling though the roasters until you find what suits you.

Grind the beans coarser and don't heat too high a temp. Dark are already more bitter, which many like, even I, but I do add a touch of Almond Milk to cut the bitterness. Coffee is a big part of life, and I intend to invest in more coffee supplies when we move back to Texas. I had Vietnamese last year when we visited Vietnam, and it was as good as I heard, and brought some dark roast back and still can't get it to taste the same. Found this for you while typing..............Best Brewing Techniques to Reduce Coffee Bitterness

  1. Adjust Your Grind Size. The grind size affects extraction. ...

  2. Maintain the Right Water Temperature. Brewing with water that is too hot (above 205°F) extracts too many bitter compounds. ...

  3. Avoid Over-Extraction. ...

  4. Use Filtered Water..

I'd ask at Hugo & Brew coffee shops. I like both medium & dark roasts but I'm a cappuccino guy. They only use Thai beans, don't know from where and don't know the roaster.

They don't advertise as Thai beans because they think Thais want imported.

I like these two

I found it on Shoppee. Three of those bags were something like 1098 Baht.

I recently discovered Lavazza. Available on Shopee. Slightly more expensive than in the US, but worth it.

1kg bags aren't great, taste will deteriorate over time

Eeewwww. Dark roast. Eewww

I only drink Columbian coffee. Hand carried from Canada(costco). Best coffee I've drank, everyone I turned onto it has switched.

Local coffee sucks.

I was in Bali with my ex-wife, checking out one of those coffee plantations. This cute Indonesian girl was giving us the tour, explaining the whole process and handing out samples.

At one point, my wife wandered off to look at something, and the girl leaned in with a mischievous little smile and asked, “Your wife is Thai, right?”

“Yeah,” I said.

She grinned. “Thailand has a lot of beautiful ladyboys, yes?”

I nodded. “Oh yeah, tons.”

Then she went for the kill shot, trying to be a smartass: “So… is your wife a ladyboy?”

I looked her dead in the eyes, completely straight-faced, and said:

“You think my wife is beautiful?”

She completely lost it, couldn’t even speak for a few seconds. When she finally recovered, she was cracking up so hard she ended up hooking me up with a huge bag of extra coffee samples to take home.

Gee. I do still have people in Canada that appreciate it. A resourceful person could figure it out. That does exclude many on this board.

And my main point was LOCAL COFFEE SUCKS.

Thanks, I will try them. I have been stuck with the Aro for awhile now, quite reasonable priced and taste. Try once and awhile other brands, but the price is often double or more, for something that really do not justify the price for the taste.

Try the Costco one I posted. You'll be surprised how much better it is. . It was < $20 a year or two ago but the last bag I bought was $33. Coffee prices have skyrocketed.

When was the last time you bought this? Recent reviews say the taste changed. They sell 2 pack at Costco online

I buy my coffee at Hilkoff Learning Center on Mahidol Road. They probably have an online presence.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/vTT9yd3qMNYDw4mQ7

They have a huge selection of beans. I tried a few before settling on this one at 300฿ per ½ kg.

Notice at the bottom of the pic, inside the green background, they rate the 'body' and 'acidity'. I have to stick to low acid otherwise I get some acid reflux.

Last bought 6 or 8 weeks ago. The non-delivered price is cheaper, and you get single bags. Haven't opened the latest bag so I can't comment on current quality. It has been very consistent the 20+ years I've been drinking it.

Once air is in its a bit late, what i do is use zip tie bags that fit 11.5g of beans perfectly then freeze them, they are then beautifully preserved for when you want a coffee

You dark roast drinkers. How much sugar/milk do you need to put in it to make it palatable? I want to taste the coffee, not the bitter stuff stuff in dark roast. I drink mine black.

If ever drinking black, I like to put half a teaspoon of brown sugar over the crema and watch it slowly submerge, very satisfying.....

I don't need sugar with Dark French roast, try that rather than Dark roast, i also find that bitter. I have 30ml milk which suits me

I put Baileys and add milk. It's amazing.

No sugar and no milk or other addetives. Black coffe only, and the Aro bought at Makro above, I use one scoop less than I normally would use for the volume of water. I have not measured coffe in grams for a long time now, but use a standard drip coffe scoop as measurement.

I have also become a bit more lazy by the years now, and low my Mocca Master drip machine. Gives less of the bad stuff when filtered through a proper paper filter.
