Jill Biden Defends Hunter Pardon: ‘We Couldn’t Let Him Go To Jail’

image.png

Former First Lady Jill Biden has defended the controversial pardon granted to her son Hunter Biden, saying the family feared he would be targeted after Donald Trump returned to power.

Speaking to CBS News, Jill Biden said she fully supported her husband's decision to reverse repeated public promises not to pardon Hunter.

Trump Elected and that changed everything

"When Trump was elected, things changed," she said. "We knew that he would target Hunter, and we just could not let our son go to jail."

Hunter Biden had been convicted on federal firearms charges and separately pleaded guilty to tax offences. Critics from both parties condemned the pardon after Joe Biden spent months insisting he would not intervene in his son's legal troubles.

Prosecution was unfair

Jill Biden argued the prosecution was unfair and claimed Hunter faced punishment for offences that rarely result in prison sentences.

She also defended Joe Biden's decision to issue pre-emptive pardons for several family members before leaving office, suggesting they too could have become targets of future investigations.

Most controversial decision of Biden presidency

The comments are likely to reignite debate over one of the most controversial decisions of Biden's presidency, with critics accusing the former president of placing family loyalty above his repeated pledges to the American public.

Of course. Jail is only for commoners, plebs, and the "little people." Elitists have the power to sway the justice system so their own families are exempted from the consequences of their own corruption and disregard for the rule of law, which of course only applies to the "peasant classes."

How are Trump's sons a danger to anyone?

I get it and every human gets it

This pardon was actually signed by sleepy Joe after he said he wouldn't give Hunter a presidential pardon. On the other hand there's a good chance Fauci's pardon was the autopen. One day it will be revealed exactly who was running the country in place of Biden.

The Dems are going to have a bad case of the red-ass when Trump pardons everyone and their dog on his way out.

Tax evasion, and gun charges. What a quality guy.

I am sure Trump 🤡 would have pardoned Hunter, look at the range of people

he has pardoned so far , some of them are going to get compensation too, if

money is involved I am sure he would pardon anyone....

The poor little baby (how old is he), still needing his parents to look after him. Wonder if he will ever grow up?

Also transporting prostitutes across state borders which is a federal offence. I think it comes under human trafficing.

I believe a grandmother that got ten years for misdimeanor trespass was one such person.

Not ideal but fully understandable given Trumps horrible nature. Nothing compared to the lowlifes and scumbags and giver of funds that he has pardoned. Even the Trump supporters can concur with that I am sure.

Trump's pardons alone would move most away from him even if they got other things they liked. Well one would hope.

Obama pardoned or granted clemency to more people than Trump.

Biden pardoned or granted clemency to more than twice as many people as Trump.

It's a banana republic when a president - any president - can unilaterally pardon people. Family members, drug dealers, fraudsters, insurrectionists, no justification needed. There doesn't need to any question over the guilt, they can be guilty as hell and rightfully convicted in a court of law. It is mental.

Why they have this power is beyond me.

Banana republic.

What is important is the reasoning for the pardon and the quality of the people pardoned not the quantity. Trump has pardoned some really bad eggs.

Yet not a peep from you about the thousands Obama pardoned or the thousands Biden pardoned.

But Trumps's 1,700, that the end of democracy.

Tim Walz just issued a pardon, did not here you moaning about that.

My God you are impossible. This is a thread about Biden's pardon is it not?

And did I not just say: it's a banana republic when a president - any president - can unilaterally pardon people.

Automatically defending the Trump. Mine was an objective comment about any president having that right. It's banana republic stuff. I didn't even mention the orange one.

Now pipe down.

Put into AI - people who Trump have pardoned who are bad eggs - plenty of serious examples will come up immediately. If you haven't you should. Not avoiding the question just not looking to get in a big talk fest about it. Either you concur or you do not.

OK here's a few.

Notable examples include:

  • January 6th Rioters & Extremists: Trump pardoned approximately 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, including members of the Proud Boys like Enrique Tarrio and Oath Keepers who had been convicted of crimes ranging from seditious conspiracy to assaulting police officers.

  • Political Subversion & Abuse of Power: Trump pardoned former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik - tax fraud , former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich - corruption and trying to sell a Senate seat, and several key allies and aides tied to election interference and the plot to overturn the 2020 election.

  • Fraud & Financial Crimes: Trump has granted clemency to several high-profile white-collar criminals. Examples include reality TV stars Julie and Todd Chrisley - bank fraud and tax evasion, as well as disgraced financier Michael Milken - securities fraud.

  • Campaign & Administration Aides: Trump pardoned former campaign aides and advisors—including George Papadopoulos - lying to the FBI —who were convicted as part of various federal investigations.

  • Other Controversial Figures: Pardons were also granted to figures like Lev Levandowski - stealing trade secrets - and former Trump supporter Michele Fiore - embezzlement.

A couple more shockers:

  1. Julio Herrera Velutini : In January 2026, Donald Trump pardoned Julio Herrera Velutini, an Italian-Venezuelan billionaire banker who had been indicted on federal fraud, bribery, and foreign election interference charges. His daughter, Isabel Herrera, donated $3.5 million to a pro-Trump super PAC - MAGA Inc. across late 2024 and mid-2025.

  2. Paul Walczak: In April 2025, Trump granted a full pardon to Paul Walczak, a convicted tax criminal who withheld over $10 million in employee paychecks to fund a lavish lifestyle. His pardon was granted shortly after his mother - attended a $1 million-per-person fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago and contributed $1 million to a pro-Trump super PAC. The pardon wiped out the $4.4 million in restitution he owed to his victims.

So no terrorists, murderers and cop killers like Obama and Biden, thanks

Break the law, do the time... if you can't do that, then don't do the crime. Smells of privilage and "Do you know who my father is.." etc. The moron should be in jail on so many counts... he wasn't president or in some other position that grants immunity etc..., just a leech on Daddy.

Er, he has pardoned murderers. And commuted the sentence of a convicted cop killer who then went on to commit more violent crime including strangling his wife.

So you have nothing to say about the examples given - and all you have is some vague notion of other presidents pardoning bad people. You may be able to dredge up examples of mistakes or bad outcomes in pardoning by those presidents.

One can then look at potential motives for doing so and decide if those few examples were intentionally bad form or not.

You do have the option too of saying what Trump has done in terms of pardons is untenable even though, say, your shares have gone up. Up to you as I say.

I am generally against all pardons, and I think about ten of the J6 people should not have been pardons.

Aside from J6, Trump pardoned about 200 people, while Obama pardoned about 2,000 and Biden over 4,000, including murderers, terrorists, cop killers and embezzlers, so I don't get that caught up in it.

Trump promised if elected he would pardon the J6 rioters, and he did.

Biden promised he would not pardon Hunter, and after the election he did.

And more to the point, how are Trumps sons relevant in a thread about lyin' scrote democrats?

Remember when opposite talkin' wokies spent 4 years falsely claiming Don jr was a coke head, when they knew all along it was their beloved 1st son? Ah memories😅

Mostly for marijuana pardons , while Trump 🤡has pardoned much more serious criminals,
