UK would be blocked from rejoining the EU

Wounded" European countries would block Britain from rejoining the EU, Jean-Claude Juncker has said.

The former European Commission president said member states would give the UK the "cold shoulder" because it was too close to the United States.

A future British government would have to commit to one day join the euro and forget about getting back its old EU budget rebate or opt-out-d---

Gordon Brown should have let Tony Blair take us in when we had the chance.

UK support for rejoining

The latest polls in June 2026 show that 55% of British voters would back returning to the EU, with only 34% opposed and 11% undecided.

The polls suggest only 36% want to rejoin ...it only goes up to 55% if it's rejoining on the same terms...all well and good posting only part of the story...so my point stands, no one really wants to rejoin the EU

Whichever figure we take though, it confirms that it's incorrect to state (as you have done twice now) that, "No one wants to rejoin ...'

Ok, I stand corrected...hardly anyone wants to rejoin 👍

We've accepted it, but just want to change it for the sake of the country.

Neither more than half the people nor more than a third of the people (depending of the terms for rejoining) equates to "hardly anyone."

It's perhaps worth pointing out that Juncker left his position as European Commission President 7 years ago and he may not be so well attuned with EU members current views, especially since the linked article goes on to say that his opinion is not shared by various current EU leaders, who "have indicated they would welcome Britain back."

The loss is undeniable, the warm sunlit uplands never appeared and voters have noticed.

I expect someone thought they’d try get ahead of what’s actually happening:

There doesn’t seem to be much ‘cold shouldering’ going on.

The EU and the UK have announced they will hold their next summit to discuss the “reset” in relations between London and Brussels on 22 July.”

No, I guess not; it was a massive mistake. I want what's best for my country.

I think Junker is completely wrong here (if he actually said that as reported).

You'll have the chance to change it if you win a rejoin referendum.

Good luck with that.

No point rejoining now the pound' has been hollowed out to junk status for the last 10 years 🤔

I think when he said "change" he was referring to changing for the better.

Reform in government would do unthinkable damage that would make Brexit seem like a minor hiccup. But hey, at least, you know, The Lord's Prayer.

It would be absolute madness to rejoin now.......just as Brexit is paying big dividends.........oh! Wait....have I read these correctly?

Oh come on, everyone knows Brexit was a massive success but it just wasn't done properly!! We're almost there, it's only ten years since the vote, the sunlit uplands are just around the corner - it just needs doing properly. Or something. Or maybe it's because of the ECHR, probably. Or something like that.

Yes. 'Special relationship' indeed

(only the Brits are aware of that - the average American would never have heard of it)

UK would be foolish to get back in the EU. The EU is soon going to fall and go bankrupt with their absurd rules from Bruselles and under the reign of U. Von der Leyen. Illegal immigration and trillions of euros given to Ukraine are going to lead to the downfall of the EU. Many nations like France, Italy have political groups with increasing numbers who are wishing to reduce the huge payments they have to make to the mafia-like governance of Bruselles. Not to mention the many scandals of corruption involving European Union parliament membres getting wads of cash from rogue nations like Qatar. Check out the "qatar gate scandals in Brussels" for yourself on all the EU media that is of course hushed down.

Because the current obsession is Russia-Russia-Russia boycott-boycot-boycot. Sure why not. I don't much like how the Russians flaunt their corrupt wealth all over.

But Russian sanctions come at a cost.

Stopping cheap russian oil from entering Europe has led to cancelling all the sanctions against the terror regime in Iran. Thanks to America.
